Crompton isn't an option QB, he's a pocket-passer. He does bring more mobility to the game than Ainge does, but so would any other QB with the agility slightly better than that of Peyton Manning.

J-Cromp can make the first pass-rusher miss and maybe get a few yards, but he can't win a game with his feet. He can't compete in a game with his feet for that matter.

I think some people are confusing Crompton with Tebow, and he's not that kind of QB at all. Tebow has better running ability, while Crompton has a better arm.

I dont think Tebow has better running abilty as much as about 50 more pounds behind him. THe games Ive watch he just muscles around he doesn't seem to be a better scrambler or have any dazzel. I dont care if that jump pass scored or not he and the play looked horrible, but it did work. Just my opinions of course. everyone is entitled.

I'll take a QB with a stronger arm over a QB with better legs (for some reason that comes out sounding kind of sick) any day of the week. After all, the name of the position is quarterback.

A QB is only as good as his supporting staff and lets be honest Meach and Swain company have made even a routine pass look great by breaking tackles. All JC has to do is get it to his Staff. I still havent wrote off our running game.

who do you think is a worse scrambler, EA or Casey Clausen?

Ainge is not nearly as slow footed as some seem to think. He's no burner, but he's quick enough on the sprint outs and is pretty good at floating around in the pocket while keeping his eyes up.

He sounds a little tee Martinish. hey we won a NC with him

I just thank God he is fast enough to chase down a DB! :)

Maybe...but it sure does look akward when he takes off.

No doubt . . . it does take him a stride or two to get started. The funny thing is that as awkaward as he looks sometimes, he looks a heck of a lot better running than Peyton Manning or Casey Clausen ever did.

Definitely. Ainge was a very good basketball player in high school, and could've played at SF for many D-1 colleges (top programs excluded). He's got quick feet.

Are we already evaluating Crompton's abilities before we've even seen him play a whole quarter?

That's the reason for this thread. People were thinking that his running abilities can make a difference in a game. My question is, what running abilities? In every scouting report I've ever read about JC it simply states that he can make the first person miss. IMO, that's mobility, not running ability.

I think that's one of those things that is really a complete unknown. All those scouting reports are from his last meaningful action . . . in high school 2 years ago. Who really knows how fast the guy is at this point?

The one time that I've seen him run all that much was against Cal a couple of times and he did have one play where he blew up a linebacker, but nothing that would indicate one way or the other how quick he is.

Yes, I agree. I think Crompton is a very, very talented quarterback who can be successful at the University of Tennessee and beyond. There is no question about that.

You're right, how JC will perform in a game is unknown at this point. I'm very excited to see him take the starting job at UT eventually. Hell, I've even thought it might be nice for Ainge to leave for the NFL early so Cromp can play! Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Ainge fan as well. It's a tough choice.

I dont think anyone is thinking he is Mike Vick. He can scramble and is a mobile QB. I don't want him to be a runner, thats want running backs are for, but if need be at least get a few yards on a scramble.

That begs the question is Vick a great QB or a great athlete
