Next three weeks extending to the next three months are critical for the Vol football program, probably for the remainder of the decade.
Win two games and sign this recruiting class and we may well look back on 2013 as the turnaround from the Hambone Hash-Up.
Fail in any of these objectives and I fear Butch Jones has left too many questions on the field this year. I look at in-game decisions at Florida and yesterday (on special teams esp). Those are HC decisions - leaving Peterman in the game to go 4-4 on turnovers when Florida was handing us victory; kicking crazy to danger men in what I can only believe was an effort to make his team compete and fight. He got his answer.
If we lose to Vandy or KY (or, Heaven forbid, both), even bringing in this recruiting class will leave questions on whether they can be coached up to potential.
No team in the country has deserved a Bye week more than Team 117. I actually think it is critical for the Vandy game. I don't think we could win next Saturday.
I can (somewhat) forgive an OJT season in the SEC for Butch. Coaching transitions are extremely difficult in college, and this group has been through too many. I would like to think we could be more competitive in our losses (Alabama excepted), but I will accept the Year One rationalization on why we can't seal the edge in Game 10.
But Butch HAS to get it done these next three months.
