Mike Jones Jr., a redshirt sophomore linebacker, has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple sources. Because the NCAA granted an additional season to fall student-athletes because of COVID-19 concerns, Jones will have three years of eligibility remaining.
He started seven games this season and missed time because of injury but still had 359 snaps, 30 tackles, four for loss of yardage, four pass breakups and two interceptions, including one in the Sugar Bowl national semifinal loss to Ohio State in New Orleans. He redshirted as a freshman in 2018 after playing three games and then played in all 15 games in 2019.
Jones is a Nashville, Tennessee, native who played two years of high school football at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He was considered a top-10 outside linebacker by ESPN and top-15 by 247Sports.
