I really can't follow baseball anymore other than to read a bit here and there and watch an occasional game on the tube.
In the good ol' days, a Cub was a Cub, a Brave was a Brave, and a Yankee was a Yankee. I could tell you most of the starting lineups throughout the leagues.
I have no clue now so, my question is...who are the Red Sox and the Cubs and the Angels and the Dodgers? Are they the fans who stay there as players shuffle through on their way somewhere else in a year or two or three whenever their contract runs out and someone buys them with more money?
Are they the city inhabitants who meander on out to the ballpark on occasion and the city officials who talk about "our team"?
Are they the historical figures who played for the franchise in years past?
Are they the stories about good years and bad, good players and bad?
Maybe they are the owners and other personnel who make a fortune off the aforementioned people by consistently selling them on the "Club we've put together this year...".
Or are they just the present personnel and entity that occupy the space called _______ field and who say "This is our (Whose?) year...we're gonna win it all this year...?
