Obviously Harris chose Tennessee to showcase his versatility as an inside-outside PF.

What's cool is looking at the stats of last year's Mo-state PF, 6-6 Kyle Weems.

Weems put up a slightly better defensive rebound percentage (21.9% to 20.8%), so it's clear he is playing on the interior.

OTOH, Weems had a better assist rate than Tobias (10.8% to 10.4%), and he shot twice as many threes as Tobias (156 to Tobias's 76 attempts). Also shot them at a nice clip--39.7%.

He didn't shoot as many 2's as Tobias did, but he shot his fair share: 255 2-point attempts to Tobias's 326. Got to the line to the tune of 106 FT attempts. Obviously Tobias is better at getting to the FT line, with his 170 attempts.

In short, it's quite clear that a PF in Martin's system can easily showcase perimeter skills.

Wow, pretty interesting stats. I do believe that if Harris stayed and developed just a little more that he could possibly be the 1 or 2 pick in the draft. He is still a little raw but has the work ethic to be great. There were a few games during the season where he seemed to disappear. I don't know if that was CBP or him. Funny to see how the next few months play themselves out.

if he stays one more year, top 5 pick, if he goes this year, big mistake

I like how he said in the presser that if they were gonna test the draft, they needed to commit to it and be all in. . .it's gonna be hard to half@ss anything around this guy.

Kyle Weems is a much much different player then Harris. You guys must not have seen him play much. Weems plays more like 6'4 then 6'6. His shot is miles ahead of Harris. However Harris is much more physical and has an inside game. Weems just chucks from deep. I've seen him play a few times and he doesnt play D, hes chunky, and doesnt rebound for his size. Now I dont see Harris being ther shooter that Weems is, but his game is much more complete then Weems game is

Harris could stay 4 years at UT(he won't) and he would not be the top pick in the draft.

His lack of athleticism will never warrant that pick. But he could be a solid top ten pick with a lot of defensive coaching and some polish to his offensive repertoire.

I agree he isnt going to move up to far...he is a great player but not a superstar... maybe he could go to just outside the top 10 if he hung around for a few years. Risk of injury isn't worth it to stay...he should go, take the money and bank a nice 12+ career in the association.

Harris definatley needs another season and Martin is the guy to teach him how to improve his game but he's still a LONG way from a top 5 NBA pick.

If he said that he is dumber than I suspected. These kids are trying to get a payday in the pros. Martin is going to make over a million dollars for the next 5 years. And he is so petty and self absorbed that he resents them even testing the water. Surely your wrong and he did not say that. How shallow.

Not surprised that you missed the point completely.

I thought it was a pretty considered and strong position, actually. You're in, or you're out. Martin made it clear he is not pandering to Hopson or Harris and leaves it to them to make the best decision for themselves.

I, for one, respect that he will not make them the focus of the program.

Scotty Hopson made me die a little inside every time he dribbled into the teeth of a 2-3 zone for a t/o with the game on the line. I LOVE the fact that this player will be gone next year, whether he decides to stay or go.

1. If he's more like 6-4 than 6-6 (or plays like it), then I'm even MORE impressed by what Martin accomplished. The entire reason I'm impressed by that team is that they played decent defense despite going 6-1, 6-3, 6-3, 6-6, 6-9. Now you're telling me the 6-6 guy isn't quite even a big guy, at least not effectively.

2. You're wrong about his rebounding. As I posted in the OP, his defensive rebounding percentage was 21.9%. That's higher than their 6-9 guy's (21.5%). It's higher than Brian Williams's (21.4%) and it's higher than Tobias's.

3. In fact, Weems's defensive rebounding percentage would have landed him second in the SEC. At 6'6". Goulbourne of Vandy led the SEC with 23.1%. KY's Jones was second at 21.8%, and our own BW was third. So when you say he can't rebound, it makes me question your entire post.

4. To put an even finer point on it, the SEC's entire top 10 in defensive rebounding percentage is listed at 6'8" or taller.

5. And anyway, I'm not trying to compare his actual game to Tobias's. I'm saying that if a 6-6 guy can pull down 22% of available defensive rebounds at the PF position under Martin, and at the same time shoot 150 threes at 40%, post a better assist rate than Tobias, and a better turnover rate...then Martin is running a system that will allow a PF to play both inside and out, and Tobias should have no trouble getting a chance to showcase his game.
