Hey volnation, I tweeted Trae Golden earlier today to tell him that the team looked great and asked what he thought of coach Martin. He said he is by far the best coach he has ever played for and expects big things this year. You can see the development in our team in just one offseason. The fact that coach Martin played in the NBA is really paying off.

It seems like those close to Martin have come to really like and support him. This is really nice to hear, especially considering that there were many reports of confused and skeptical players when the coaching change happened.

I'm just glad to hear that it sounds like the players are buying into CCM and his staff. I hope that we can build some momentum early in the season and be ready to come out firing by the time we get to conference play. I think our biggest issue is who will run the point when Golden isn't out there, because there is an insane dropoff when he isn't on the floor.

Yes, that was very evident when he was not on the floor.

I like Coach Martin's demeanor on the sideline. When he's chewing on the players all eyes are on him. I know others like westknoxrepub dispise his recruits so far, but you have to believe he knows what he's doing. Recruiting a kid with limited talent no matter how much coaching up will show up on the floor. We just need to give him some time. Right now Trae Golden is playing on a different level than anyone on this team. When the rest of the team can join him this team will surprise some people.

Something else I noticed (from wiki so take it for what it's worth)

(Professional career[edit] Hawks, Bucks, Grizzlies, Italy[edit] 1995–1997Martin was selected by the Atlanta Hawks as the 57th pick in the 2nd round of the 1995 NBA Draft. He played in only seven career NBA games for the 1995–96 expansion team Vancouver Grizzlies and the Milwaukee Bucks where he re-joined his college teammate and the number one pick in the 1994 NBA Draft Glenn Robinson during the 1996–97 season. During his tenure in the NBA, he shot 60% beyond the arc, in which he scored his only 9 points. He also played a stint professionally in the CBA for the Grand Rapids Hoops and he played the final two years of his playing career in Italy for an Italian Series Legadue team named Felice Scandone in Avellino Italy. Martin was leading the Italian team in scoring averaging nearly 19 points a game when in November he informed the Club of chest pains and a general feeling of malaise. Martin also began to notice a drop in his weight which at first he thought was due to the flu or common cold. In November 1997, Martin requested to his sports agent at the time for the Italian club to release him and send him home where he then discovered he had non-Hodgkin Lymphoma a dangerous but treatable and curable blood cancer. Martin never played another professional basketball game and began aggressive treatments and chemotherapy and the cancer went into remission. Martin returned to Purdue to finish his degree and after which the head coach at that time Gene Keady hired Martin as an assistant coach in 2000. The Cuonzo Martin Challenge Award to help raise funds for cancer research was established in his honor and he has since been cancer free.)

To your point slystone of how Trae is shooting the ball so well. Look at coach Martin's shooting percentage from beyond the arc in the NBA it's over 60% which is really really good. We have a coach who has played at the highest level and knows what it takes. The fact that coach Martin was such a great shooter is showing in our team. Especially Trae Golden. We were hitting 3 pointers left and right all game long. If we keep this up and the 3's continue to fall we will be a tough team to beat.

I said it once and I'll say it again. Martin is a baller. I mean a true assassin. If you challenge him, he will nod say ok and rip out your throat. It has been said that we will be on the bottom and he didn't like it at all. When it is all said and done people will think twice about betting against him.

I believe Wespun can run the point, but Cam Tatum and others have to pick up the scoring during that time. Wespun is not the offensive player as Golden.

If I am not mistaken Wespun is a true freshman and one of Coach Martin's players in his first recruiting class. Golden struggled at times last year and look at him now. Hopefully with another year under Coach Martin Wespun will improve as much as Golden.

You can tell that Washpun already has a decent handle on defense. Of course, he could be better, but he's not doing too bad considering the circumstances. Unfortunately, offense is almost non-existent with Wes at this point. I think once he gets more comfortable and confident, he'll be able to effectively use his +40" vertical and athleticism.

coaches. And players who struggled under the old coach and succeed under the new coach are always going to think the new guy is better.

Most likely, Trae worked his behind off (figuratively and literally) in the off-season and made himself better, just like Dane and JaJuan and Lofton did when Pearl came in.

It is great the guys are buying in, though. That is a tribute to Coach Martin's ability to relate to them and a product of early season optimism. It is sure to be tested when the schedule gets a bit stouter.

While I like your enthusiasm, going 3 for 5 behind the arc for your only points in an NBA
career isn't "really really good". It is just a small sample size.

Possibly. They all start somewhere.

However I wouldn't look to Tweeter for evidence. Every player ever says that about every new coach ever.

I understand it is not a big sample I was just making the correlation between Coach Martin's high shooting percentage and our teams high shooting percentage. It may not mean anything but it's something I noticed.

I also like how he battled back from the cancer that he had. It shows true determination and spirit.

No way, you are saying Golden only said good things about his coach on twitter?
