This might not be a big deal but this morning as I was scrolling through the RF I had an epiphany. On field success brings better off field recruiting and attracting a wider and better talent pool of players. This is clear as day with the recruits we are in battles with the top of the top right now. When you go toe to toe with the big boys in recruiting, you won’t win them all as we all know. With that being said, our coaching staff and culture seems to be one that every recruit mentions and loves even if they don’t commit to us initially. I think that the culture plus our financial resources will prove to be a dream destination for any recruit who decides to potentially hit the portal for whatever reason that might be. I see this staff as one where a kid and his parents will never forget if they were being recruited initially by UT. I know a lot of portal activity is revolving around money for big time players but there’s a multitude of reasons where a player wants to be around a better Coach, team, family type culture, and have fun while winning at a high clip. It doesn’t hurt to be able to offer more than most as well. I just feel that these big fish we might miss on at first will think about UT as soon as portal ultimately is their decision. I can hear a bunch of Mothers and Fathers saying to their kid, “ You better call Coach Hype!” Does anyone else agree or is this far fetched?

Good call. I think between what you said and also the success that Heup has had with portal players so far (Velus, Hendon) and potentially after this season (Thornton, Campbell, Mincey) we could have a major sales pitch of Onfield Success + NFL Draft Success for portal players specifically.

It would be interesting to see which programs are most successful with putting portals players in the league. Tennessee has to be up there.

If Thornton blows up this year then we would be on a run of Velus Jones, JaVonta Payton, Bru Mccoy as a continual bridge to bring WR's in that want to ball! I know their might be a couple I missed but that is solid proof on field that "If you come to Tennessee, you will put up numbers compared to your former school." I can see this trickling down into other position groups. If a top notch QB hits the portal and knows that two stud receivers are heading over to the hill wouldn't you want to come on board to throw to them and throw it around the rest of the yard?? Name a position group that is not appealing to a transfer right now on our roster? Every single group would gladly welcome and benefit from a talented a kid wanting to be a part of something special. Time will tell but as time goes on with some of these kids that realize they made a mistake, the big orange will be these kids' first subconscious thought. Maybe I am off but I think time will be our friend and our opponents enemy on and off the field. Time will let the smoke and mirrors fade away and make a kid finally evaluate their situation after the high school recruting gambit is finished.
