I've read words of disappointment and apprehension from people on this board with respect to this year's recruiting class. "Oh, were not ranked in the top 10, whoa (or woe) is me." I agree that it would be nice to see a higher number next to the word Tennessee in the ranking list; however, we must take all things into perspective. To begin with, based on the 247 composite, our average player ranking is 91.07. This score is higher than a significant number of teams that are ranked above us. What differentiates our overall rankings from many teams ranked above us is the number of recruits we have signed. Thank you Cornbread for putting us in a limited scholarship situation. UGA and LSU each have 28 recruits to our 21, which is a big difference. The staff has done not only a fine job with the recruiting class, but they have also made major gains in the transfer portal. Sure, there are players that are leaving. I have always felt that we are better off without those that do not truly want to be here. The fact is that we are in a really good position to field better football teams moving forward. We finally made it out of the wilderness last season and soon Tennessee will be without recruiting restrictions. Things are looking up. Go Vols.

EDIT: Thank you Hank Bukowski for pointing out the grammatical errors of my original post!

I am pleased with this recruiting class and there is a possibility that it can be even better.

This class of recruits and incoming portal transfers continues to increase the talent level on Tennessee's roster. The 2024 roster will be the most talented one in awhile. If Nico is what we think he is, this team should be in the CFP.

23's Class added to this class will mean by 2025 UT will have at least 27 4star or better players in the lineup. Not including Transfers. That looks more like the UT I remember..

Not for nothing, but:
The idiom is "woe is me", not "whoa is me".
Unless maybe your horse is named Isme and you want him to slow down.

Oh, brother oh, brother…agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly. But…

“Whoa is me” vs. “Woe is me…”

“I have always felt that we are better off without those that truly want to be here.” Ummm…?

“The facts is…”

I’m just taking the bait and picking on you in a good spirit. Just in a mood. And we all know you can do better.

I disagree. The playoffs are our ceiling next season but looking at reality we’re breaking in a completely new secondary. Nico should be fantastic but we have to stop the opposition from throwing the ball at will before we are at a playoff position talent wise. We are getting better but we’re still behind the 🎱

I disagree. It is possible, but could be difficult. Who would have predicted what happen two years ago when HH took us to a # 1 ranking before the SC defensive disaster.

The new secondary is a good thing. The old one wasn’t good or athletic enough to run the type of defense Banks wants to run. The talent will be better in the secondary in 2024 than it was in 2023. That’s not even debatable.

Remember, the CFP expands to 12. Tennessee will get in with 2 losses and possibly gets in with 3.

I am still concerned with the lack of trench monsters.
Spent our wad on current roster. Had to let some folks go, unfortunately one was Addison Nichols. Making room against the 85. Edit: 83*

This class aside, staff has struggled (at times) on big fish tackle bodies, on both sides.

Find a big time G, T, and a DT in portal and all shall be forgiven.

OK, to begin with, I was unsure of the spelling myself. I googled it, and the results I got said the proper spelling was "Whoa". I initially thought "Whoa" should be used before "Nelly". Evidently there was a group (Down with Webster) with a popular song named "Whoa is me." I went with that.

You are correct... I have always felt that you should never forget to use the word "didn't" when you needed to. Again sir, thank you!

The facts is .... is just stupid 🤣 Agreed!

My proof reading skills were obviously not on point when I hit post. I have corrected the errors and credited you for you astute observations! I really do appreciate that you took the time. Happy New Year and Vols Go!

I definitely agree. Even at 9-3 we’re in, we need a more aggressive approach in the secondary in general but change cannot be a bad thing after watching these guys (with the exception of hadden this year) the last few seasons we need new guys.

In my opinion there will not be 6 10-2 teams next season. LSU and Arizona are at 13 and 14 with 3 losses if our 3 were Oklahoma close on the road, Bama, and Georgia I see us in the top 12. 2 is definite 3 is still possible. “No way an undefeated Florida state gets left out” right?

My question to Volnation would be would you want the returners in the secondary all back or go with the new guys? I’ll try the new guys.
