I realize this may be a controversial subject. But with Bush's approval rating around 27% for the current course of war, what does everyone else think about the current strategy of the war in general. My personal opinion is that it is too early to pull out the troops. In general, it just seems that we started a mess and we are leaving it up to the Iraqis to finish. Even if their own troops were to say they could handle the insurgency by themselves from here on out, I still think it would be wrong to pull out. People are dying over there in the war because of US. It would be wrong, in my opinion to withdraw military occupation without finishing the war that we started. Some of you may not agree with me on this, but this is what this thread is for. Whats everyone else's thoughts on the conflict?

Three Countries.

Split that God Forsaken place and get out as soon as you can to avoid meltdown.

If one of the states begins harboring terroism, allow the World Community to deal with it.

well, if we'd used the Powell doctrine at the beginning, I doubt we'd be having as many problems now. The "strategy" of disarming Iraqi army units and sending them "home" was a mistake.
I also think it's a mistake to highlight every time one of our soldiers is involved in a "criminal" act. I'm not saying these incidents should be swept under the rug, but I do think that the press coverage isn't helping anybody but the terrorist insurgency.
The US has also been weak when dealing with the backers and enablers of the terrorist insurgency. These people view negotiating as weakness. Norman Schwartzkopff knew this and it's a damn shame he retired and was never consulted.

Pottery Barn rule....you break it you buy it. We're stuck cleaning our own mess up. No one will jump in and help at this level and we cannot leave. I know it's not the PC thing to say or popular with the Saddam haters but we'd be better off with a strong dictator we can keep tabs on than try this democracy that clearly will not work in this region. We've had no problem dropping in and propping up dictators in the past. Why not have a local step up and take charge?

wasn't Talibani to be the dictator du jour until he turned out to be a little too corrupt?

wow, the irony.

This seems to be the most practical solution. However, I see it turning into a three-way "Israel/Palestinian" fiasco.:ermm:
