Curt Phillips, the QB from Sullivan South High, not too far from Knoxville, committed to Wisconsin over the phone yesterday. Weren't we recruiting this kid pretty hard? Had we even offered him yet?

That is good for him. He was most likely never going to get an offer from UT and he still got a solid D1 scholly. Congrats.

Yeah I have seen this guy play many, many times. He goes to Sullivan South and I graduated last year from Sullivan North, about 10 miles away.

He's alright. There's actually a picture floating around on the web somewhere of him running over my best friend. The problem is, the area where he plays isnt really a football area. What I mean by that is there isnt any athletes around here good enough to stop him. He has never really won anything significant anyway....

He's a good HS QB but I dont think he's much more than that.

I don't care if he did it against the Marshmallow Cream Puff All-Stars, his numbers and stats from Thursday say otherwise. Phillips ran the 2 minute drill to close out the half to perfection. Great passes, a great run, and most notably a TD. Got lucky and Elizabethton fumbled the kickoff allowing South to tack on an a field goal before the half. The kid is good. It will be interesting to see what happens to him, but I've seen a lot of high school football over the past 15 years in upper east tennessee and sw virginia. If franklin, witten and the jones brothers can make big names for themselves in the NFL, phillips can definitely do something in the Big 10leven.

dont forget heath miller.

I knew I was missing at least two people. He's one of them and I forget the other I'm trying to think of.

On a side note, Heath Miller was a BEAST for the Tigers

Edit: I'm thinking of Gerald Sensabaugh who played for DB. Which reminds me, even Teddy Gaines made a practice squad..hahahahahaha

I graduated from Sullivan South High, and still go to most of the home games whenever I'm off work.....curt phillips is an absolute beast. Two games in a row, he had accounted for 6 touchdowns in the first half before being pulled for the second half. TD count this year is at 27. This guy has the most potential of anyone from Northeast Tennessee since Witten played at Elizabethton in the late 90's

I would disagree with that. The Lamont Williams kid from Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett about 3 years ago was receiving interest and offers in most cases from every major school in the country including Tennessee, Florida, Miami, and even USC. Turned out his attitude and drug problems landed him in jail and not being an all-american receiver at a major university right now. He had more potential that anyone around northeast Tennessee in a long time, including Witten.

But you are right, Phillips is a player. I will watch with interest on how his career pans out in the Big 10/11.

Some dumb kid called in to whatever show they have on after the games complaining about us not offering this kid, saying he was already better than the qb's we have.

The radio guys basically blew it off, and I think for good reason. If we don't offer a guy, it's because we don't need him. We've got 4 quality qb's on the roster now, will have 3 next year, plus we'd take a top QB (like Pryor) if he wanted to come here. No need to take a roster spot up for a guy who very likely wouldn't see the field, especially since it's looking like Stephens and Coleman may be the real deal.

I have been either East Tn or Central NC my whole life and have had the privledge to see, and play with a few, great ball players, and this Kid is absolutley the real deal as a dual threat QB i have seen him play a lot and i think he is the most dangerous HS player i have ever seen including Mike Fulkerson DB, Lamont Williams DB, Shorty Adams Sience Hill, Jason Witten Betsy, and maybe even Little Man Stewart when he was at Morristown West (i think), anyone who think he's not the real deal is either hating or just not watching. One Word for this kid, OHMYGODDIDYOUSEETHAT!
