Cut, Cap and Balance Passes

Will Reid let the Senate vote on it?

Its a little late for political theater. I guess it lets some TP types (and those GOPers who fear them) go back home and say they voted for a balanced budget.

But its goofy. It doesn't actually provide for any specifics, just sets lofty, nice sounding goals without any path to get to there.

Might as well pass a resolution entitled "Yay for me!"

I think (actually hope) that the electorate is educated and savvy enough to see through a charade like this.

P.S. I'd say the same thing if Dems were behind it and the roles reversed.

High irony if the Senate that hasn't passed or even proposed a budget for well over 2 years punts on this.

It actually has bipartisan support from the House.

We've been told it won't pass so why not let it come up? Even if it passes Obama will veto it so why not let it come up? What's the risk to Reid and the Dems if it is purely show? Sounds like the CYA is going on in the Senate.

Agreed but either way, the house GOP knew damn well prior to this that it wasn't going to make it to the senate floor before they passed it.

Immaterial IMHO. We continue to have a situation where the only plans for addressing the issue have come from Republicans.

Let the Dems go on record as voting against any and all of them.

I've changed the title (to correct it to Cut, Cap and Balance but it's not showing in the Topic view).

Can one of you fix this please? moo-cho-grassy-ass

This was expected I guess (it passing the House), but I'll definitely be watching what happens next with two eyes. No reason to not at least put it up for a vote in the Senate.

My position as well. I'm really not sold on this idea at all but I do want to see our lawmakers have to take a stand on something.

Also, I'd be interested to see how the electorate feels about a balanced budget amendment.

Did I hear earlier today that if this gets voted down in senate then the debt ceiling cannot be raised? I forget.

Either way, this whole situation has been ridiculous. Obama and the dems are complete idiots for not actually promoting any plan then complaining and the GOP is made up mostly of childish knuckleheads who are saying "100% our way or go fk yourself and your default."

The TDS link I put up in another thread with the bs ceiling was good stuff, you'd like it.

As long as we don't raise the debt ceiling the government will have no choice but to run a balanced budget.

I am against it. I would like for our government to operate on a balanced budget most of the time; however, I do not think it is healthy to legislate a constraint against running a deficit, as situations will arise in which it will be necessary to increase spending and increasing revenue will lag behind (i.e., if the US were attacked by an invading force).

Can't we legislate such a provision?

Fwiw this bill the house passed doesn't have any specific debt reduction plan and there is an exception for war on terror spending or something.
