Cutcliffe Remembers Helton

I seem to remember a quote from Todd Helton in SI when he won his first Golden Glove or something like that..

SI: When did you decide your career would be in baseball rather than football?
Helton: The first time I saw Peyton Manning throw a football.

Todd Helton such a class act and classy guy. I saw him go down against UCLA when Peyton was a freshman and felt really bad for the guy. Really happy he had a huge baseball career.

Most Vol fans remember Jerry Colquitt going down against UCLA.

Helton got hurt later in the season and Fulmer didn't want to hurt his baseball career.

FYI - Todd wasn't hurt! He had very little grasp of Tennessee's offense and the supposed "injury" in that game was shall we say seriously over blown. (Fact not Fiction). This is not to cast Todd in a negative light - he laughs about it now.

Todd's career was always in baseball.

Bull. While it wasn't as bad as Colquitt's injury, it was bad enough for Helton to say "I can't risk this crap when I know my ticket is in baseball." He knew early on he wasn't going to play that much, but that changed when Colquitt went down. And then changed again when he got hurt. Even Manning said he found out later that originally Todd was going to help him and Stewart along (ie learning the system) and then move on, but the injury to Colquitt tweaked that plan.

You are wrong and Helton had no clue how to run the offense and has admitted that. FYI - My father and I have known Rodney and Todd Helton and their dad Jerry since I was 6-7 years old and Todd played travel baseball for my dad in high school.

game for us....he hurt his knee in Starkville against MSU...I was there....and like about half the UT fatithful, I thought we should give this Stewart kid a shot before the Manning kid, because he was more of a 'college QB'...to this day, no one asks me to evaluate QB talent, and I can't figure out why...

They both looked like Manning in the Vanderbilt game, so you weren't too off.
