MTSU fired their head football coach. Cutcliffe might be interested in taking a mid major to glory!

Any chance?

Rumors are floating around about this but I find it hard to believe that Cut would be interested.

we can only hope cut goes to mtsu. i will agree that cut is a good coach but phil needs to get out of his comfort zone. and find a good coach from outside the ut family.

Is this really a question? MTSU? I somehow doubt that's what he meant when he said he'd like to be a head coach again. Sounds to me like he's a lock for OC next season.

In a year where bad QB play has cost us or hurt us in just about every game, I would welcome Cut with open arms. He is worth it just from the QB coach point of view.

For those that want new blood and a new system, I understand completely but it's not going to happen. The system we have would have worked fine this year if we had a QB that could run it and make passes in it.

With Foster breaking out and giving us our run game back, QB should be a MAJOR priority in the offseason. So bring Cut on, it's time to work on fundamentals and he is the one who can teach them.

and who was thos good qb supposed to throw to????? receivers who continuously dropped passes and ran the wrong routes.

who was supposed to hand off to backs that fumbled oh and dropped swing passes.

And another thing, the o line play was average at best probably more like below average.

i do not understand why everyone is so high on Cut. i did not like his play calling when he was here before.

some of you act like there are no other good qb coaches and offensive coordinators in the NCAA.

cut will be here for a couple years and then he will leave. then we will be back in the same predicament

Too simplistic, QB sit is horrible so is WRs, OL sweep blocking, ad infinitum. Cut is a one year coach, we need a decade solution. :mf_surrender:

I typed this all out in another post and I won't do it here. The OC position is not the only position that is going to need filling. WR, OL, RB, DB and special teams are all possibilities.

Patrick, we may have that problem with anyone who takes this job if they are able to turn around our offense. I think you have to look at the present and not worry about the future.

Well, we've never actually seen what Randy Sanders can do if allowed to do his job rather than simply play out the fairly rigid ideas of offense Fulmer has repeatedly expressed, recently and in the past.

As far as the Cutcliffe situation, he'll prop us up back to at least mediocre in the short term. The overall offensive problem, Fulmer's rigidity and refusal to adapt, will remain over the long term though unless Cutcliffe can beat him down before he moves up again.

I welcome Cutcliffe, but only because at least he understands the O plan Fulmer refuses to give up, and because only he is likely to have a chance of convincing Fulmer that his old fashioned rigidity is foolish and that he needs to at least consider making some small initial adaptations on the "try it and see" plan....
