I'm about to get into road cycling. Wondering if anyone on here rides and if so, what kind of tips have you got?

I'm gonna go check out bikes tomorrow morning, hopefully ride a few.

I really need to get back into shape and since my knees can't take the pounding of running then I have to resort to biking. Plus I've always been good at it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've got a Trek 1000 road bike. It's an aluminum frame which is cheaper than carbon fiber. Depending on how much you plan to ride I wouldn't spend much money at first. The carbon fiber bikes are expensive. The problem with test driving the bikes is that when you ride a carbon fiber bike you won't want anything else. There are a lot of good deals on craigslist if you want a used bike.

Test drive at the store but also check out Bikes & Bicycles - Mountain, Road, CycloCross, Hybrid and Comfort bikes from bikesdirect.com before you buy. I bought my bike online. I just got into it a couple months ago trying to train for triathlons. An avid cyclist at work recommended the website listed above. Their prices are great and shipping is free.

I've been riding for about 25 years..
Get a Harley

I've got a motorcycle license... but can't afford a bike. LOL.

I wish I could do some type of financing on a bicycle, then I could get a good one right now. I was looking at a Raleigh at a local shop today. Seemed like a nice bike, I'll probably test ride it next week. I wish I didn't have to work on Tuesday, then I'd go to all the shops in the area.

The prices on bikesdirect.com are awesome. At some of those prices I could buy a road bike AND a mountain bike. There's some great trails around here and I'd love to ride them, but I want to ride distance on the road, too.

I'm looking at this Dawes Lightning 1500 right now.

I live in Illinois. LOL. But I went to the Trek store today and pretty much picked out the bike I'll be getting. It's a Trek FX 7.2. It's not a road bike, but close to it. Straight bars and cheaper.
