Volunteer D-I Baseball Coaches File Lawsuit Against the NCAA

Lawsuit by Volunteer D1 baseball coaches against NCAA only allowing 2 paid assistant coaches and not allowing 3rd “volunteer” assistant coach to be paid. Ark coach one of lead plaintiffs represented by law firm that successfully won case for minor league vs MLB.

IMO, those coaches should be paid. You can’t have much of a living if your pay comes from running camps a few times a year, particularly if you’re at a small school.

The counter to that argument is -- Alabama would have 146 volunteer assistant coaches in football if you allowed them. The idea is that you don't want Tennessee or in this case Arkansas to have an unfair advantage over ETSU or UT Chattanooga. The NCAA
was attempting to keep a level playing field. At least without reading the actual suit that is my thinking. If collectively everyone within the NCAA wants to add a third paid assistant coach great. I know most if not all college baseball programs lose money - so it can be difficult for
anyone not named Arkansas to justify a third paid assistant coach.

But it is not equal already because the P5 schools make a lot more money with camps, lessons, and tournaments which is used to pay volunteer assistants so they are making more money now. I can guarantee you that ETSU does not have a Director of Quality Control for baseball like UT does.

I think it's time to abandon the attemps to keep a level playing field. Let's not pretend that all schools are equal.

I understand the small school thing but I know P5 Volunteer Assistants that make 6 figures from camps.
A number of P5 Volunteer coaches make more than mid-major head coaches, however they do not receive benefits…..but in your early twenties, you don’t need a ton of benefits
