Thought I would start a post since it’s officially , Vandy Week , D1 baseball has Evan listed as the 21st overall Catcher in D1 baseball.
7th in the SEC. Article said they would re-visit the rankings in 6 weeks. You can read the article in D1 baseball

I wanted to give my comments about his catching in regards to what I see. I personally have watched Ol Miss , Arky and Vanderbilt’s Catchers and I personally think he’s right there with them. What makes this very interesting is he’s not had very much time back there.
I would also comment on how he’s done with the High Velocity guys. The 3 starters all being around 95 , has to be a challenge to catch around 300 pitches a weekend.
I went back and looked at the SEC numbers and he’s right in there with the leaders. I also took in consideration Dollander’s , delivery to the plate and his numbers are right in line there as well when you deduct Dollander’s stolen bases . 1 error and that was a catchers indifference, a lot of people on this board where concerned about the catching position at start of the season but the Vols are 24-1 , 6-0 in the SEC. I don’t think this team would be ranked #1 for the first time in the programs History with a weakness at one of the main positions. The Catcher touches the ball the second most during a game. 2 pass balls on the year. That’s right at the top in the SEC.
I first seen Evan behind the plate at Chattanooga and Memphis in the Fall and I was impressed at first look. But as I have followed the team this year , he has quietly been doing a great job and seems to be getting better each week. Really remarkable really…. With this being Vandy Week , I hope Evan has another game of his life because the Saturday’s game of the Vandy series is one I will never forget. What a day it was to be In That stadium…..

I guess I read and heard talk shows talk about his abilities and I don’t think any of those negative comments where warranted when actually I personally think he should be commended for the job he’s done…

one would have to wonder if his name has crossed any of Vandy’s players minds lately , when he hit that grand slam last year they where raTTled to say the least…..

Best words out of Chris Burke’s mouth … no way, no way , commentator: “he’s done it”
Chris “the hat trick”
would someone post that video so all
Us Vol fans can enjoy until Fridays game gets here
Go Vols - the #1 team in the Country!!! beat Vandy!!!

He may have some work to do behind the plate and defensively, but offensively, I’d put him up against any of them!
Are there better pure catchers? Yep.
Are there better hitting catchers? Probably.
But there’s only one Evan Russell and I’m glad he’s a Vol!
GBO!!
