I hope I spelled his name right in the title.

I haven't heard much discussion about this guy. He pitched 3 scoreless innings today against the Marlins. What does everyone think about him?

He's already hyped up too much by ESPN and the like. I hope the gyroball is something new.

Hard to be overhyped with that kind of salary... Then again, money for the Red Sox and Yankees is like Monopoly money.

The gyroball is a fastball grip choked like a change-up with some weird wrist flip. As I understand it, (which isn't very well) it acts like change-up with some nasty movement.

Like someone said it can act like a slider but not as sharp and with less bone chip removal in the future of a pitchers arm.

Personally, I think it's BS. He will get ripped.

I fully expect the Nomo effect. A fantastic season in 2007, then the hitters figure him out in 2008, and he stinks that season.

ESPN spends hours upon hours talking about "Is he a bust?"

We won't know how good he REALLY will be until seasons 3 and 4.

That's the truth. From what I've read, he's got 6 pitches he can throw well. If that is the case, he'll be good.

he's already been given the nickname "Dice K"...

I stopped caring about the Red Sox when Yaz retired, but any team that creates misery for the Yankers I'll cheer for.

I wouldn't really care if Boston and New York floated out into the Atlantic Ocean. I hate both the Red Sox and Yankees equally. I'm a huge Braves fans but always root for the small market A's to get to the World Series over those big spenders.

I also love all these new Red Sox fans around today. Everyone was a fan after 2004. To me it's just ridiclious how much bandwagon riding people do in baseball. Before you call me out on the Braves I was a fan since the late 80's.

Therefore my answer of Dice K getting his tits ripped in the majors might have been more wishful thinking than actual baseball knowledge, which I have alot of. I agree that he might be the bee's knees for a couple years then people figure him out.

Yeah.

Although when worse comes to worse and they face each other, I pull for Boston.

He has supposedly looked electric so far in Spring
Training.

He is pitching against guys in spring training who will be in the minors or bagging groceries next week. Once he gets to the season and faces some batters who actually have some major league experience then we will know what kind of pitcher he will be. My friend is a Sox fan and has been her whole life. Her brother was all fired up after Dice K did well against Boston College. That is like me going out and pitching to little leaguers.

Yeah that was in no way a knock on little leaguers....

I would plunk the first couple and then the rest would be too scared to step into the batters box
