Dang. Think I might take the 88 in the pick 'em for the next 2 races now.

I kid I kid. I wonder if his head restraints broke or were not tight enough.

Will be interesting to see. I wonder if NASCAR does an investigation.

I think the fact that he was in a 200mph car crash should not be taken lightly.

I was extremely surprised to see this. I found out off of Jr's facebook page. Only thing I can think of is it must be pretty bad for him to sit out two races in the midst of the Chase. I know he pretty much doesn't have a chance to win the Chase but very surprising.

He drove with a concussion at the conclusion of 2002. I'm guessing he doesn't want to do anymore damage. This is a great opportunity for Regan Smith.

That's unexpected. You know they just about had to have an in-car camera on Jr. since it seems like they do every race, so if anything strange happened in the car they could go back and look at it.

And I've adjusted the Pick'Em Entry thread for Charlotte. Make sure you change your picks if needed.

Good way for Regan to show what he can do in some good equipment. I hope Regan has some success in these next two races for his sake.

Blows my mind to think about how nuts it is to drive a car 200mph while suffering from a brain injury. Wow.

@MattCrossmanSN: ESPN's Ricky Craven, who missed races/had career altered by concussions: "My gut tells me #dalejr's probalby done for the rest of season."

I gotta agree, I think he should sit out the rest of the year. Looking back I've forgotten he has had a history of head injuries, he said got a concussion from the Kansas test wreck and still drove at Dega.

I think he needs to sit out the rest of the season for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is his health. There is no need to rush him back when he has no chance at the championship and the only thing to gain is the slim chance of him winning a race, when the chances of him crashing again and injuring himself further is much more likely. Second, I want to see Smith get more than two races with a top notch team. This is the best equipment he has ever been in and if he can capitalize on the opportunity and earn some strong finishes, maybe he will get a better chance at a top ride than what he would have if not for this happening.

NASCAR and F1 needs to keep an eye on this. I really wonder how many drivers take a concussion and keep on racing.

I know drivers won't be happy if they are parked, but they are putting a lot of lives at risk. They are putting 42 other drivers at risk, plus all of the people in the stands at risk.

If RG3 want's to go play a week after being knocked the hell out, that's fine, he only risks himself.

I really think no one in racing is really owning up to when they have been concussed. Case and point, last year, my boy Lewis Hamilton hit the wall hard at Spa. He didn't move for a few moments after and then later reported that he didn't remember the accident. We didn't hear squat about that from the media. Fans and the media may need to start paying better attention.

That's a real shame and I feel bad for Jr.

He said he felt 100% getting into the car before Talladega, but thinks the fast spin around during the wreck gave him a sort of vertigo. That's rough stuff.
Impressed with him for stepping up because he knew something was wrong and being man enough to step away from the car.
I hope he recovers quickly and is back to full speed soon.

Agreed 100% Nerd. I think if a driver is suspected of having a concussion they should have to take a test just like football players do. If they cannot pass the test then they should have to sit out just like football players.

Gordon says he would "play hurt".

If I have a thought at the championship, there's two races to go, my head is hurting, and I just came through a wreck, and I am feeling signs of it, but I'm still leading the points, or second in the points, I'm not going to say anything. I'm sorry.

You know, that's the competitor in me, and probably many other guys. And, that's to a fault. That's not the way it should be. It's something that most of us, I think, would do. I think that's what gets a lot of us in trouble.

I figure they have nothing to lose. Probably trying to push the edge on horsepower.
