Darrell Waltrip was on Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain Sunday night, and the Dale Jr. sponsorship topic for 2008 came up. Someone had already drawn up a picture for a #5 Budweiser sponsored car for 2008, and Darrell Waltrip said that can't be because Budweiser won't be the sponsor. He did say, however, that the sponsor will be something you can drink but not out of a red can.

IF D.W. is right and knows something, I would have to think the sponsor would most likely be Pepsi. Pepsi has long been a sponsor of Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports. With Coca-Cola having such a big presence in the sport, you would have to think Pepsi wants to be a bigger player than just an associate sponsor on the 24 car. Pepsi could make a HUGE splash by being Dale Jr's full-time sponsor.

does it really matter who the sponsor is? there's too much commercialism in NASCAR now, and focusing on what label is going to be on the hood of a car takes away from the fact that it's the man behind the wheel that wins or loses on race day.

yeah but what about all the $$$ people have invested in #8 BUD stuff, of course it matters, they root for Dale but buy the red #8 hats, who will be #8, who will be Bud, it would be the same as the Vols changing their color from Orange, of course the fans would be wondering.

it's nothing like the Vols changing their colors, get real. Drivers change teams frequently. I have a Mark Martin #6 hat from his Pfizer sponsored days, does it make me any less a Martin fan now? no, it doesn't. People spend money willingly on merchandise, their arms aren't being twisted. You'll still be able to show your support for Jr. even if you wear his old colors.

You asked does it matter, the answer to his fans is yes. This forum speaks volumes about that. They have a interest in the product he is going to be putting out there.

And by your comments, you sounded like a grumpy old man, so of course your support stays with Mark, after all you prolly still used his product, you know "viagra"

Here are the most likely sponsors: Nike, Gatorade, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, and Budweiser. Budweiser may however sponsor Kasey Kahne instead of Junior next year.

hey thanks for the personal attack, you disagree with me and all you can think to do is hurl an insult, nice.

it has nothing to do with being old, grumpy or impotent. It's called being realistic. If Jr. changes sponsor and number, will you still be a fan? Does the Dale Jr. shrine in your living room get tossed out? Or are you a real fan of the man, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.? If you are, then the colors he wears should be of little importance to you.

I thought about Pepsi after reading DWs interview too...makes since just like kkep48 said....and since DW was right all along about who Jr would drive for, I guess he could be right about his sponsor too...

I also head Bud might go with Kahne, even tho he barely looks old enough to drink.....

Naw I reckon that I'll keep all em Earnhardt things I gos up air at da flea markit, afterall eay look purdy in my biglots liquor cabinet I bot at da yardale last week, ....................No seriously, I tivo and watch most in fast foward, and really pay attention to the last 20-50 laps, and all I am saying is you asked does it matter, and the obvious answer is yes. You just came off sounding quite cantankerous in your prior post.

sponsors are what allow the man behind the wheel to be able to afford the chance to win or lose on race day.

I haven't heard the Budweiser to Kahne rumor. Where did you guys hear that and what is happening with Dodge Dealers? They have been good to Kahne and Sadler, whom they both sponsor. I have heard the Nike rumor but not the Mountain Dew one with Jr. Mountain Dew is a Coke product, correct? If it is, Hendrick would never let that happen because of his association with Pepsi.

And yes, it absolutely does matter who sponsors the car.

Mountain Dew is most definitely Pepsi.

also, i've heard the Budweiser to Kahne rumor for a some time now. the main place would be on one of the SIRIUS NASCAR shows.

I'd say The Dew! But there are rumblings that Kahne may jump ship to Gibbs! If so Bud is out! If not is Kahne Bud material he looks more like a Koolaide kind of guy.

since Mtn Dew is a Pepsi product, dont you think Pepsi would be the main sponsor and maybe have Mtn Dew sponsor a few races??? Not everyone knows Mtn Dew is owned by Pepsi, so why would Pepsi let Mtn Dew be the main sponsor?? Doesnt make much since to be..... kinda like even though more ppl drink Bud Light, Budweiser is still the sponsor.......anyone get where im comin from?? :ermm:

and of course the sponsors matter, what kind of question was that?? Ill just stick with JR Motorsports merchandise, cant go wrong there.........

Good point, very well could be Pepsi with Mt. Dew on the car for several races. Makes sense with Hendrick's ties to Pepsi and Coke having more of a presence in the sport right now.

I still think it'll be Bud staying with Jr. but maybe it'll be sponsoring Jr Motorsports #88 Busch car? Would love to see Mt. Dew or Gatoraide on a car.

Yeah I could see Gatoraid coming into Nascar since Vitamin Water has started to make a presence

NIKE, would be cool too, just a big swoosh on the hood. After all even though he hasn't done anything he still is on the same standard as Jordan or Woods, well not really but I guess I am saying, Who else would nike sign in Nascar?

Junior has a deal with Puma (as do several others) that supplies his fire suits, gloves and shoes.

not sure when that deal ends, but i'd say go ahead and rule Nike out.

Nike would never work because he has a deal with Adidas with his Busch and Late Model program, so you can forget Nike.
