true...but its because there are only 4 teams who have had #1 classes I believe...Clemson, bama, Georgia, and Ohio State (LSU)...so its more that those teams are winners and continue to field winning recruiting classes. Personally...In the end we want to have the #1 recruiting class because:
Seven of the 10 best recruiting classes in college football history have won or played for a national championship within a four-year period, and that number could increase to eight depending on what Ohio State is able to accomplish with its class signed in 2021. Those seven signing classes have combined to win seven national titles since 2013, with two Alabama classes winning two titles apiece.
Only USC (2006) and Florida (2010) failed to reach the national championship field, and that was during the BCS era. Those classes would have likely been included in the four-team playoff field during their reigns, meaning every recruiting class in the top 10 would have advanced to the playoff at least once in their careers.
More importantly, each No. 1 class in the 247Sports Composite from 2011 through 2020 has played for a national championship.
Butch also had 30+ commits in each of those top classes which skewed it a bit. We’re right on the heels numerically with our class currently and have over 10 less recruitsAt the same time, I'm cautiously optimistic. I used to track every committ, every potential prospect, and calculate the 247 rankings. Last time we were top was under Butch. It was a sore lesson, that numbers and stars don't equate to wins. We had so many guys I was really high on, only to fall short of winning the East year after year though it was a weak division. Huepel's strategy is actually effective though. sooo...
