This has me sick to my stomach. RIP Wheldon. I am not a huge IRL fan, but he was a great racer, and it's sad to see anyone lose their life.

RIP

This was almost inevitable, with this type of racing. I predict actions to slow the cars down. A great champion has paid the ultimate price for his passion. My prayers go out to his widow, a close friend of a VN member I have got to know.

Just a horrific accident - I counted at least 5 cars airborne. The in car from Will Power shows how lucky he was not to have his head crushed by his own front tire.

RIP Wheldon - one of my favs. He was a maestro at Indy and by all accounts a helluva fun guy to hang out with.

I never really watched IRL much, but when I did, I always rooted for Wheldon. He always just seemed like a down to earth guy that was doing what he loved. My heart sank when the news became official.

God speed Dan.

^ Same... Definitely my favorite IRL driver. Same week as my friend who died in a car wreck... It's too much...

As some of you might know, VN member VolNissNiss is my wife. She and Susie went to college together here in Chattanooga and are the best of friends. She was in Susie's and Dan's wedding, and Susie and Dan (and Sebastian) came to visit us at our home last year. Obviously, Niss is very upset; I can't even imagine how Susie and the rest of Dan's family must be feeling. Please keep all of them in your prayers through a tragic and difficult time.

I met Dan just the once when he and Susie came to visit us. He definitely seemed to be the genuine article. Friendly, likable, down to earth. He spent most of our time together taking care of Sebastian while Niss and Susie caught up. A proud and doting father and family man. I genuinely liked the guy. He will be sorely missed.
