Generally, absent special circumstances, I think if a player doesn't accomplish the very minimal high school academic goals that the NCAA, the SEC and UT require, that player doesn't need to be recruited to UT. Usually it just won't work out.
My problem with this situation and others like it is that I thought that the NCAA Clearinghouse is supposed to be certifying academic eligibility in advance of recruiting, if possible, and certainly in advance of enrollment in college. Both of my kids where cleared through the Clearinghouse and, as I recall, they received a letter from the NCAA certifying their status. It never crossed my mind that the NCAA could have reopened their certified status in the absence of some kind of fraud.
I don't understand how these issues arise after kids are enrolled and attending college. In the absence of fraud in the transcripts, there ought to be an end to these issues when enrollment takes place.
