Darlington is a great track and a historical place. When I think of NASCAR one of the first things I think of is Darlington. I'm glad they still race their and hopefully NASCAR will continue to go there.

My wife and I were by the track in November. That's the first time I've ever stopped at the track. I think Darlington was on the schedule for Labor Day in the past. There were some interesting races in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Seems that Richard Petty won there quite a few times. I hope they never take it off the circuit.

Darlington is the most challenging track on the circuit and one of the best places to go watch a race at! It's NASCAR in its purest form.

I'm wanting to say Earnhardt Sr. came up with it along the lines of him being the man in black. Not sure though.

The Labor day race was know as "The Southern 500"
It was a sad day when they took it away.

If Nascar ever stops racing at Darlington, I will stop watching Nascar.

the fact that they took the race from Darlington and moved it to Calfornia disgusts me even more.

Also found this at that link...

On March 1-2,2007 the USAC Silver Crown Series held an open test at Darlington Raceway. Shortly after the test it was anounced that the USAC Silver Crown Series would hold a race at Darlington on May 10 as part of Darlington's NASCAR weekend. This race will mark USAC's return to Darlington after a 51 year absence.
That'd be fun to watch. :rock2:

Speed aired a few USAC events the year that Yeley won the Triple Crown. I think that was the year, anyway. I'm pretty sure it was during that week of races they have in Indiana in the Summer. Once FOX bought out Speed, that was the end of that unfortunately. ESPN/2 used to televise some USAC races, too.

there's a World of Outlaws race on Sunday on Speed. i think it's a re-air though. comes on at 2 and it's from Eldora.

and actually, i think both SPEED and ESPN have plans to air several races this summer.

Kasey Kahne won the pole at last year's Cup race at 169mph. :eek:hmy:

My sentiments exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The farther NASCAR moves from its roots the less and less I care!!!!!

yeah, there have actually been discussions about moving the race back to Darlington at Labor Day and taking a race away from California but, I doubt they will do that now that the race has sold out 3 years in a row. I would always go down when the race was on Labor Day weekend and it was never sold out, but it has sold out in advance every year it has been on Mother's Day weekend. I think the main reason is the heat, it was so freaking hot on Labor Day Sunday down there you couldn't breathe.

any race in the south, from late March to late September, has the potential to be hot.

sorry, but i don't buy that excuse.

Those same people that complain about heat during a sporting event are the same ones that will run to the beach in mid-july and not think twice about 100+ temps. I dont buy it either
