Darlington, thanks for the nap...

If you don't like the racing at Darlington, nothing is going to satisfy you.

Amen, just because there weren't a lot of lead changes, doesn't mean it's boring. Just watching them run within inches of the wall lap after lap keeps my attention. They show why they are at this level of the sport.

I completely agree. Darlington is a must for the serious NASCAR fan. The racing does not get much,if any better than it does at Darlington.

I enjoyed the race.
8th place for Travis Kvapil and loved the retro look.

That was a nice look, hopefully local dealerships carry on that theme to keep #28 sponsored for the duration of the season.

I agree. The retro look reminds me of the days(via film clips)of watching Junior Johnson, Fireball Roberts,Ned Jarrett,Lee Petty, and other drivers in action from NASCAR's early years.

Brings back the memories, except the clips are in my head.:) Never saw Lee Petty drive, but did see Buck Baker, Curtis Turner, Ralph Earnhardt (met him when I was 14), Joe Weatherly, Marvin Panch, Cotton Owens, Rex White, Tiny Lund, Jack Smith, Jim Paschal, Paul Goldsmith, AJ Foyt, Lee Roy Yarbrough, David Pearson and all those you mentioned. Other names don't come to mind or were not competitive drivers.

The "Golden Boy" of NASCAR's golden era.

That's the Golden Boy as he was called, one of if not first drivers from the north. He and R. Petty had quite a rivalry going. One of his fellow team drvers at Holman-Moody was Nelson Stacy sponsored by Ron's Ford Sales right here in Bristol.

My dad grew up in Kannapolis,NC, and knew Ralph Earnhardt and knew Ralph as a racer so he was fan of Ralph's and has followed Dale Sr and Jr naturally. Richard Petty is his other favorite driver along with Dale Sr. My dad recalls those days fondly.

I met Ralph Earnhardt at a Sat. night Sportsman race when my dad owned a Sportsman car. Dad's car finished 3rd and Earnhardt was 4th. He came over after the race and talked to us for a few minutes. This division is now the Nationwide Series, with a ton of evolution. Richard was a favorite of our whole family. There is a picture of him and my mom at Daytona on the beach taken in 1965 that I posted here on VN.
