Wasn’t ever going to lay it out there since media kept it quiet, but obviously someone gave Mike Wilson the go ahead so figured I would share. Dubar lost multiple people very close to him in about a week span right before the season which was the reason for him stepping away for awhile, I’m glad he chose to return to the team and now has friends and family to be there for him.

That's terrible new but its good for us fans to know the reason for his struggles. Maybe fans can lighten up on the criticism of him. I was beginning to think he just was not an SEC level player. Hope he turns things around for next season.

Everyone grieves their own way, but I wish Dubar would have opened up about this, if even just a little. Not many fanbases come around and support their own during hardships quite like Volnation. Heck, just earlier in the season we raised funds for an opponent's player who lost loved ones close to them.

This information should have been released a lot sooner.
It would have tamped down a lot of the criticism the kid has endured throughout the season.

If he wanted it private, then the info should have been private. Clearly it wasn’t something he wanted to discuss or have known for some time. Plus he wasn’t even at Tennessee yet when it happened.

Some people like to keep this stuff private. Up to him, of course. It was reported several places when the season began that he was going through some things and it wasn't disciplinary or bball related. That was enough. One idea I have is , we all (myself included) could all just be more measured in our response to players who don't perform to our expectations, and always remind ourselves that we don't know what they might be going through. We could do that with everyone, actually.

Dubar stepped up tonight. Many of us said there would be a game we needed him to play some key minutes, and tonight was that night.

Had a nice 3, put back on a miss, and a very nice block that lead to a bucket for us. Played some solid D that really seemed to help bother KY, and had an assist, too. Couple boards to boot.

Thanks for hanging in there and not giving up on the team like Carr did, Dubar!
Also, thanks for helping us get our revenge on KY!
Very good he never checked out on us.
With Igor still struggling we may need him some more going forward.

Yes it was sick , very athletic. Wish we had least one more year . You can see ability he has in him in flashes …
It's almost like he could have used some more minutes this year to help him carve out a role. Somebody mentioned that durimg the season a couple times, I can't remember who, though.

But yeah, it took him a while to find himself something close to a meaningful role. In the meantime, Igor did do pretty good in several games and really helped us on the boards all year.
That said, I don't know what has happened to Igor as of late. He seems to have regressed a bit.

Still hoping he puts it together tmmrw because I believe we are really going to need him against Houston. Definitely against Duke if we are fortunate to get the win tomorrow.
I will say though, it is nice to have Dubar as a back up if Igor gets in foul trouble or just does poorly.

We are a very thin team as far as depth, so we need full production and effort from everybody in our rotation. We will no doubt have to count on something meaningful from all 7 guys. Maybe even 8, but I think we can make it without having to play Boswell more than a minute or two.

Doesn't mean you don't lift them up though or have compassion for how real-life things may be impacting the way someone plays A GAME.
Yeah, you’d think if you’ve gone through tough stuff you’d have more compassion for those going through what you’ve experienced. That’s what well adjusted adults do, at least. This isn’t a competition for who’s experienced more grief.

Igor and Dunbar would have been great with 2 years in the system. It has been a big adjustment for both.
Igor experienced an illness during the season and since that he has not been the same.
As for Dunbar, deaths in the family slowed him down. Off at the first of the season for personal reasons meant he was not going to be able to contribute until now.
Tough situation but both had some hardships to work through as it appears.
