Didn't see a Darrell Hazel thread so here you go. He is 11-1 in his second season at Kent St. He was at Ohio St for 7 seasons under Tressel and was the associate HC. He was a big time recruiter for the Buckeyes and is listed as the primary recruiter for a lot of the 4 and 5 star players they signed in the time he was there. Kent beat Rutgers this year when they were ranked 15th and undefeated and Kent is 11th in the nation in rushing offense. They have won 15 of their last 17 games.

It would be another gamble hire, we cannot afford to make another gamble and fail. Does have a better track record than Dooley though.

Who were the losses to?

are you ready ?

Kent State lost 47-14 at Kentucky in Week 2

Darrell Hazell of Kent State should be a hot name in the coaching rumor mill

Kent State doesn't have a ton of great football history, and the MAC is really tough this year.

So as the Golden Flashes finished an 11-1 season with a 28-6 win over an Ohio team that came in with an 8-3 record, athletic directors around the country who already have openings or are considering firing their coaches should have been taking notes on Kent State coach Darrell Hazell.

Kent State, which is in the AP Top 25 for the first time since 1973, finished its first undefeated MAC regular season in program history with the win. The Golden Flashes will play in the MAC Championship Game next week. Even though Kent State wrapped up the East Division title last week, it dominated Ohio. The Golden Flashes led 21-3 in the first quarter and were never challenged after that.

In Hazell's first year with Kent State, the Golden Flashes got better as the season went on and quietly won four of their last five games. Kent State lost 47-14 at Kentucky in Week 2, but have won 10 in a row since then.

Hazell has been coaching since 1986, with stops at places like West Virginia, Rutgers and Ohio State, but didn't get his chance to be a head coach until last year. Kent State hit a home run with the hire. Now the question is how long the Golden Flashes can keep him.

The SEC has raised the bar tremendously.

Darrell needs to stay at Kent St. and build it into a power house. Then he can jump ship.

Hahaha. A MAC school lost to an SEC school. Shocking....Look at Brian Kelly's ooc record while at Central Michigan. He lost to Kentucky while coach at a MAC school as well.

If he goes anywhere this year, he would most likely go to PURDUE. He's not an SEC guy at all.

Not saying Hazel is the right guy, but none of the coaches in the SEC outside Spurrier and Muschamp were SEC guys.

Mullen came from Florida and Freeze was an assistant at Ole Miss.

When Mullen and Meyer got to Florida had they been in the SEC before? When Hugh Freeze was hired at Ole Miss as an assistant he was a high school coach. They weren't SEC guys then. Nick Saban had zero SEC experience when hired at LSU, Miles zero when hired at LSU, Mark Richt zero when hired at UGA, Meyer zero when hired at Florida.

Mullen and Freeze spent time in the SEC as assistants and gained understanding about SEC recruiting. You never said "played in the SEC"

It's just that the "SEC experience" thing is way overrated. We had a coach with SEC experience and that didn't help him at all.

Yes, we are talking about SEC Recruiting. We'll see how Missouri does. But Texas A&M and Mizzou will have slight edge in their home STATE. All the Elite players in their state will come just because they are in the SEC. Now, it will be interesting to watch to see if they can get top players from GA, FL, TN, etc...

Watch Muschamp and Sumlin go after the same players year after year.
