Was surprised that this name was taking so long to come up. Very strong record as an assistant coach, and has really turned around Kent State this year including a win against Rugters.

Rumors are fling around campus......
Derek Dooley II...except his team has a nice record this year. Was only a position coach for the Buckeyes before he got the job at Kent State.

Intriguing, but I think we need a moratorium on Mid-Major coaches, for a while.

If Dooley is fired, it is to re-ignite the passion of the fanbase by giving them some reason to hope for future success when deciding whether to donate and renew. If they lose the press conference, they will not get the desired effect. I'd never even heard of this guy until I opened the thread. Not enough sizzle IMO.

While I agree with this, it is also why Hamilton hired Dooley in the first place. He was shopping with a low budget, and he mistakenly thought Dooley had more "sizzle" than Sumlin or Cutcliffe.

What it was, in fact, was "fizzle." :) That said, I'd rather sizzle be defined clearly, as the most qualified candidate....period. One who has most demonstrated the ability to win, and do so on a consistent basis. Not defined as who they coached under, or whose last name they share.

Tressel (NCAA 5 game penalty he'd have to sit, aside) and Gary Patterson are at the top of the list when that criteria is most heavily considered.

Surprised it took so long for his name to come up on here, but he's one of the few mid-major successes I don't think I'd want.

That is not why he hired Dooley. We hired him because Kiffin left us 20 days before national signing day. Dooley was hired on January 15th and NSD was February 3rd. Hamilton went after Chris Petersen and Will Muschamp but they turned us down. I'm pretty sure there were about 10 people that turned us down before Dooley accepted. Between taking over late to salvage the class and not wanting to do to their program what Kiffin did to us, Dooley was the best we could get given the circumstances. That's why we ended up with Dooley, not because Hamilton was working with a low budget.

Reason...it has no place here.

100% the truth. Maybe 12 turned us down though, so 90% truth!

Has an interesting coaching background and could be a real up and comer. My understanding is if we go with a proven coach we may end up with tuberville. If we go unproven it will be Hazzell.
