It isn't talked about or written about often but yes. It has been that way for years. P-5 programs and others use REAL recruiting consultants. Those companies profile the program and its unique needs then go out to find players who fit the program. They present reports to the coach who then has to weigh the risks with the potential benefits. It goes beyond football or talent. Programs have a pretty good idea whether a player is an academic or conduct risk too.Has there ever been a system like sabremetrics in baseball used to analyze player value at high school level? Is there a system like this used in football at all?
I know there would be a lot of disparities bc of competition levels.
Thanks in advance.
Stats would have to be weighted somehow to compensate for strength of competition. Idk how one would do it on a high school level just because of the size of the player pool. Pretty sure something like this must exist already in the pros.IIRC there was an article in the Athletic that UT's prior staff was consulting with a company that used track numbers. A little bit outside the box there.
Not sure you can really do anything to analyze a HS player just glancing at statistics.
Seems most all of JH recruits will fit his mold of blend of athletic, mental (can grasp JH offense scheme), team first, etc. That being said, it's really tough to look at top 20 TN recruits, and see we've got maybe one of them...know NCAA and new staff are legit factors, but we've got to start winning the state. Most coaches will combine a bunch of factors outside of the 'stars'; including personal evaluation from watching the games, camp performances, peer evaluations etc. The stars are generally helpful to get into coaches eyes but coaches do consider all other stuff including 'how the guy fits the system' they have .. so there is some data driven recruiting already
