Why can he not sell our university to these candidates? We have a better history and tradition than some of these other schools that are looking for coaches? Does he have the guts to step down as AD if he cant get the job done. I believe Fulmer would be a great AD!!

The stakes and the pressure are high. You win and you may well become a legend. You lose and get canned, and you (esp. as a junior coach) may as well have put your career in the gutter. It's very risky from a career standpoint.

Because UT has a whiny, malingering, impatient, fair weather fan base that turns on coaches and AD's too quickly.

Dave: Hey, you should come to Tennessee. You'll get to play Alabama every year. You'll also have a chance to recruit against Alabama, LSU, Florida, UGA, and USCe. We've got great facilities and a huge stadium. Oh, one more thing, if you don't win the conference championship every 2 or 3 years, we'll have to run you out of town.

Interested?

Its not about history. Its about perception and what have you done lately mentality. And UT has done nothing in a while. Its not as attractive as we vol fans like to thank. And for that reason, we need to settle down our expectations for the home run to the best hire.

Why did dh fly his wife with him to UL?

Not that uncommon these days when it can be arranged to have wives of a manager and prospect to meet. The wife needs to feel comfortable with the people her husband will work with too.

It can been the clincher.

You guys are complete fools if you're already calling for Dave Hart's head. He hasn't even made the hire! This whole fiasco has proven to us not to trust the media reports as they are often kneejerk and inaccurate. Just let this play out and judge the hire after it's made.

This!....and everyone wants Hart to get a "winner & good coach". What...you think he'll find them down at the unemployment line. If you're winning, you're good and employed it's not exactly as simple to throw a offer down and expect them to say yes off the bat.

If he has to freakin counter offer a huge amount for charlie strong then the mf needs to be put in check by Cheek. Hart didn't want help with the search and has shown that he not only lost a committed Gruden, but is overpaying for Charlie Strong. I don't believe Strong is the solution and not much of a short term fix. We can't afford to pay big money for a risk. That kind of money needs to be on a proven winner. If a proven winner ain't available, then go a different route.. just don't effin pay out the a$$ for someone unproven. F it, im done with my rant.

Allow me to elaborate...do I get 3 million + a year and even if I'm a total looser still get an additional 5 million just to walk away? Hart: yes....I'm in!

UT deserves better than what we have gotten lately

Why? I had hoped that many of the Dooley haters and negative people here were just loud mouthed exceptions to the real UT fan base... then I saw Neyland about half full vs UK.

ND has stunk for long periods of time... they fill their stadium.

Nebraska had some rough years... they fill their stadium and support their program.

Michigan, UGA, Bama, LSU, Clemson, even places like Wisconsin have seen bad times. Their fans were more supportive than UT fans have been over the past few years.

Maybe your comment "deserve" points to it. Fulmer thought he "deserved" and was entitled to be UT's coach. Many seem to think that the current UT fanbase is entitled to instant gratification.

In all honesty, fans and programs don't "deserve" any such thing... and especially when they act like this one.

You want a great AD and football HC? Show up when the chips are down. Want great recruits? Don't fill message boards with non-stop negativity. Fanbases as much as anything else build the perception of a program. Great AD's, boosters, and fans will get great players and coaches. Right now.... UT does NOT deserve a great coach or AD.

However you look at it, we have been turned down by every acceptable coach we have offered it to. Now and 3 yrs ago. Why do we have to have a great salesman if the product he's selling is so good. Shouldn't it sell itself?

Overpaying someone who doesn't want to be here isn't the answer. It could cost us a lot more in the long run. Better to step back and re-evaluate our options, so we can make the best choice possible.
