This is when the job of AD can't be much fun. It's supposed to be your job to choose the next football coach--but in this instance you're just a waterboy. First, the university's biggest boosters--including Peyton Manning-- scream at you to "Get Gruden!" and offer whatever money it takes to seal the deal. Then Gruden and his agent start leading you around by the nose and asking for the moon. Hart may not be keen on Gruden--may want to hire a good college coach who offers better potential value for the dollar--but his view is irrelevant at the moment. And meanwhile, Hart's boss, the chancellor, has to be fuming as he sees the price tag for Gruden keep rising and UT becoming the poster child for excessive spending. And if we get Gruden, he's not likely to pay much attention to what the AD thinks about anything. I'm sure Saban at bama could get his AD sacked if he decided one day he doesn't like the way the guy combs his hair. Same at auburn, where bobby lowder basically decides everything--or did. At least Hart has some experience with the craziness, however, having been at both fsu and bama.
