IMO, while it's hard to compare the two, i think this movie is 1000x better than Talladega Nights.

i did some reading on wiki and they point out some similarities to actual NASCAR events, races and drivers.

Days of Thunder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

since there's is absolutely nothing else on TV, i'm watching right now on Versus. i got to thinking (i know, i know) that maybe the greatest similarity is the rivalry between Cole Trickle and Rowdy Burns. it seems like an interesting foreshadow to the Gordon and Earnhardt rivalry that was soon to come after the movie.

while the movie isn't based on the two, it's hard for me to ignore.

I have to say it sucks as far as reality. My understanding is it was loosely based on Harry Hyde and Tim Richmond or Geoff Bodine in Rick Hendricks first team. Trivia question, (Wikipedia not allowed) what unknown driver was in a movie car actually entered in races that was black flagged for going as fast as the regular cars. He got a Cup ride out of it and won a few races.

Bobby Hamilton!

(Taking so many movie classes in school was bound to pay off eventually)

i have to agree there.

some people don't realize that the drivers basically don't talk during the green flag runs, like they do in the movie. i take a scanner to the races, but i listen to more of the radio broadcast that anything else.

personally, i like looking at the video of all the tracks. i would love to see somebody put together photos on a website of all the tracks before they became huge.

I used the eating ice cream scene from Days of Thunder for the opening part of a presentation i did for grad school trying to get someone to invest in Speedway Motorsports. I later found out that scene was actually copying an event that happened with Benny Parsons and his crew. Makes the scene even more comical now.

I thought I remember it being Hyde and Richmond. And Bobby Hamilton is the correct answer. I remember him getting around 10th place at one race, probably Charlotte.

Can't watch the little man anymore. Seen it on the guide today and went past it. He had me at "Much Love Baby"
