Though I'm not voting for him, I can understand to an extent the appeal of Obama... Hillary I just don't get.

I have a question for any health care gurus out there (and I didnt want to start a new thread)

If Hillary mandates health care forcing people who can afford it to buy insurance, would this require me, who is insured through my wifes plan and paying nothing, to go buy my own? The mandate thing was said that each individual will be responsible for their insurance. If this is the case then getting Health insurance through my company and having two kids in daycare would make it more expensive for me to actually have a job vs just staying home, since then the state would sponsor me.

In MA, we are entering our first year of mandated health care coverage. I get my coverage through school (they pay for it) and my wife gets hers through her employer. However, if I were to get my insurance through my wife - then that would be sufficient (just like children). You are responsible for making sure that you are insured in this state - if you don't do it, then you face penalty. That may be what the mandate is about. As for the government supporting your insurance if you don't work - I think that it ultimately comes down to the total family income, regardless of who works within it.

So I wont have to go buy extra insurance? Because what you are saying is that you are double covered (even though the school is providing it for free) and in my case I will lose around a third of my salary to pay for it when I am alraedy insured through my wife.

I'm sorry - I must have not been clear enough. I could be covered through my wife and that would be sufficient here in MA, but I choose not to (because the insurance coverage is covered by my department). Ultimately, the state says that each resident is responsible for obtaining insurance coverage by 1/1/08. I had to make sure that I had coverage - and I could have done that by keeping mine through school (which I did) or dropping it and picking up my wife's. I edited the original post to be more clear - sorry about that.
