If you are really a fan, you will put all the crap that has happened up until this point behind you, and give the new coach at least time to show whether he is up to the job. Its not Butch Jones' fault, and he deserves the inital support of our fanbase. If you cannot support our team next year with him coaching it, then you are no longer a TN VOLS fan. Now for some positives for this hire:
1. He wants to be here and isnt afraid of the challenge.
2. He has won everywhere he's been the head coach.
3. He's young, energetic and full of fire.
4. IF he does fail, Hart and Cheek are the fall guys and will be gone.

So come on VOLNATION, get behind coach Jones and give him a chance! The National Media is making fun of us as FANS because we are crying and *****ing and moaning about this hiring process and the end result; Lets man up NOW and show them that at the end of the day we are still the TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS!!!!

By changing less than 15 words, this becomes literally the same nonsense that was repeated ad nauseum for 2 1/2 years on this site. Somehow we are the only SEC school who didn't manage to improve our coaching situation this offseason.

Meh. It will be Harts axx if he does poorly but I'm sick of these mad scientist experiments. Let me know when it's safe to watch Tennessee football again until then my head will be in the sand.

Support him fine, but I would encourage those of you fed up with the University administration to make them feel it with your pocket book.

I forgot one other positive:

This guy isnt from the Saban tree.

And unlike DD, he has won something as HC and has a winning record

I feel like this fan base has the right to pissed... give it a day or two, this hire could work... and that's why we are upset... He is not a proven winner... After watching some videos I do like the guys fire, but I would end up getting behind anyone we hired... I am a vol fan.

Though, as I hear tell, he has also never beaten a top 25 team... That aside, it's not Butch Jones's fault. He is going to come in and give UT his all because he at least wants to be here. Colorado was nearly a done deal, and then he backed out suddenly (guessing the UT offer came in)... So I agree to give this guy a chance and he is better than Dooley... I am not as concerned about him getting the most out of the talent he has... I am more concerned with can he recruit in the SEC?

Wouldn't it be cool if UT met Notre Dame in a bowl in 3-4 years and he could beat Kelly and get that monkey off his back that he can only win with Kelly's players? that would rock :)

First of all, I am not a "fan" of the University of Tennessee football. I did not choose them among some list of available football teams. I can not simply choose another. If that was my MO, I'd stick with the NFL.

I am UT. I was born into the Big Orange. Raised in East Tennessee. It has been a part of me as long as I can recall. It is my alma mater as it is my wife's and many, many members of both of our families. That simply can not be changed.

So, I will not abandon Tennessee. God willing, I will outlast this AD. I will outlast the coach. Whether they retire in glory or resign in shame, I will be there when they are gone. They are not Tennessee. They are employees.

When I saw the news this morning, my reaction was not really disappointment. It certainly was not excitement. It was simply indifference. My hope for the future of UT football is the same as it was this time last year - a simple "oh well, we'll see" kind of attitude.

I hope Butch Jones does well. I am not venomous nor angry. But, I certainly am not excited. I am not confident. I am not energized. And, that is actually a pretty scathing indictment because it is the lack of energy and excitement that is costing this program in so many ways.

For me, it isn't even about the wins. It's more about the lack of passion. Maybe it's the way of the times, or maybe it is because the program has been bad for a while. It may even be the addition of an NFL team to the state, but the heart of the Big Orange nation just doesn't beat like it once did. It's just something else to do on Saturday. That is what makes me sad.

Maybe he'll win. Maybe he'll fail. Who knows. I'll just wait and see.

In his defense, all he did was answer a craigslist ad... http://www.govolsxtra.com/photos/2012/dec/06/293267/

I am applying my 24 hour rule to this I hire - I have 24 hours to belly ache about it and then I am on board 100%. not the hire we all wanted or expected but in the end he will be the next HFC of the Vols.

here's to the next 3 years being better than the last 3...

respectfully i have to counter your argument. If we dont like the hire or direction of the program isnt it our right to boycott? if you dont like a product, and big time college football is just that, then isnt your right, nay duty to boycott for change? if we keep buying everything with orange on it bc its our team the top of the university will never be forced to change. this is about money folks. are you going to keep blindly giving yours away on a subpar product?

I 100% agree with you here.

However, as of tody how do you know what Butch Jones is going to do? My point is that we won't know until August if this guy is up to snuff- I will hold my judgement until I see what he produces.

I saw another post where someone likened it to walking in on your first day at a new job and being told you are a failure - fact is at this point we just don't know.

I am as upset that we didn't pull a bigger name as the rest of you but I am not ready to condemn a coach that has not even had a chance to show what he can do with the footVols.

All these "move past it" arguments worked the first time... even the second... and rightly so. But when the UTAD continues to increase its stupidity with every new hire, "fans" have every right to protest loud and long. Paying a losing coach $5M+ to go away, then hiring another unproven commodity with no SEC experience or roots and a history of low-level recruiting is just unfathomable. We'll be bringing a stick to a swordfight in the toughest conference in America.

You know who's most furious about this-- alums and donors. They have some skin in the game, and after five years of loyal support and empty promises, this loss of hope is not going to set easy... or be quelled by "suck it up" talk.

I do not know what he is going to do...

But I know what he is NOT going to do.

Win National Cahampionships... OR Recruit with Alabama.

I have used enough HOPE for.the last 8 or 9 years.
I will pull for the team, the players, and even this new joke of a hire...

But Hart has made my beloved alma mater a laughing stock.

hart and cheek are expecting us to be the sheep they hope and just blindly once again go along with whatever they give us and continue to buy tickets and contribute money. I for one this time say no.

Certainly you can boycott if you want, but let me ask you this, what are you boycotting? Has Butch Jones done anything as UTs coach to cause you to boycott?
What about the players? Does AJ Johnson deserve to be boycotted? This team has new leadership and I think it shows a lack of class of our fans to not at least give the guy a chance!!!!
