Disclaimer: Offseason thread. At least I'm not asking you to rank anything or predict a record.

New song off of Old Crow Medicine Show's album "Remedy" entitled Dearly Departed Friend

At the 1:33 mark of the song it says:

Yeah they buried you on a Saturday
Georgia lost to Tennessee, you would have liked that I know

I'm a fan of OCMS. They always have some reference to our state. From "Wagon Wheel" (ref Johnson City) and "Bootlegger's Boy" ("them Knoxville gals won't leave me alone")

They will break out with "Rocky Top" at some of their live shows.

Good pre-game, tailgating music! Share your pre-game tunes, please.

Looked up the lyrics. OCMS is a good band & I like em too. BUT .. just cause OCMS pimps Tenn in a song don't mean it's what I want to hear on game day. That song is realllly depressing!

I should clarify--the other songs are what I would play...not the aforementioned song. You are right, it is depressing....but we've got to find our bright spots where we can.

That's a sad song.

And yes, OCMS has many songs that reference Tennessee. Hell their new album has the stars on it.

I like the line about the Vols, but didn't care much for the song. I'm not a huge country fan, but I gave it a chance.

They put different teams in the song depending on present company. It does remind me of one of my good friend who was a fellow Vol fan and alumn. We went to every game home and away for 13 years without missing one. First as students then as grown men acting like students. Great times. Hated to see him go.

Interesting fact: OCMS only wrote the verses to Wagon Wheel. The chorus and Music were written by Bob Dylan, who has a huge influence on a lot of their songs

The best song on the new album besides sweet Amarillo is O Cumberland River, a song about the river that flows through Nashville.

And through Big South Fork National Park. Hence the name Big South Fork of the Cumberland River.

Last year I saw them perform live at the Charleston Tea Plantation festival and they were fantastic. If you enjoy this type music do yourself a favor and check them out.

Despite a couple of the negative comments, thanks for the post, OP. Will check it out. We watched my best friend and life long, devoted Vol fan be buried this time last year. Only those that don't know what that is about would make a negative comment about the song.

Old crow is great live. Saw them with Mumford and son. On game day I go with some good modern southern rock. Drive by truckers, Jason isbell, might even go a little Ryan Bingham. Bruce Springsteen is a good choice too as well as black keys or Gary Clark jr if you like a little blues.

Not true. True for several songs but not this one.

Love some old crow! A real niche band. Like the old song Tennessee Pusher and such. They bring up subjects you don't hear too often. If you're a Tennessee Hillbilly and haven't checked out OCMS, do yourself a favor and play it at your next BBQ
