Has anyone ever experienced any sort of side effects from medicines that cause you to have those types of dreams? As a nurse I'm a little familiar with some medicines causing side effects like that. But I'm just a little worried that this randomly started.

Recently my neurologist increased my dosage on my migraine preventive topamax. The past few days (I work night shift) while sleeping I've had dreams of either where I've died or where I've tried killing myself. This has got to be from the medicine right? I'm as happy as I can be in life. So I'm not worried about it actually being in anything.

* This isn't a plea for help or anything, and I'm not wanting to hurt myself. Just weird these dreams have started all at once*

I am no expert on anything like this, but I believe certain medicines could do that. I do think other things could trigger certain dreams, but have no clue as to why. I have vivid dreams, like movies usually, and often I dream I'm killing someone. It's always someone who has done something bad, but I'm killing them in my dreams. It really makes me wonder why sometimes.

That's what made this so different. Normally I have pretty vivid dream as well. But a couple of these were really vivid of me actually trying to kill myself which really scared. No idea why I dreamed that.

I kinda think mine is I fall asleep watching TV, and I watch a lot of crime/cop shows. I work a lot of hours, and sometimes don't fall asleep till around 6 am. I don't know if those things factor in, but I know night shift messes you up bad. I actually swapped to 2nd,but now having to work over every day. Do you watch or read anything suicide related?

Did just find these about Topamax. Guess I'll be calling my neurologist on Monday.

I'm in the same boat as you there of working long hours and then working night shift my sleep schedule is all hacked up. Nope don't read or watch anything suicide related.

Nurse life all the way man, I know those feels. I’ve never really been on any kind of prescription meds, but have lost more than enough friends from the military, and have no doubt that some meds they were given from the VA played a part in things. I know you said it wasn’t a cry for help, but if you ever need anything, I’m here.

I've never been on any prescription meds either taking this. Was on it once before. Have had a pretty rapid dosage increase. Before I got referred to the neurologist 6 months ago I was only taking 50mg daily, he's now increased that to 150mg twice daily.

Look into TREXIMET(R) (sumatriptan/naproxen sodium) - Patient Site
I’ve got a family member that gets horrible migraines. This is the only medication that seems to work. No crazy side effects that I’ve noticed.

My mom and pther family members have been taking this forever...minus the naproxen, which is just Aleve. It's called Imitrex without the Aleve added to it. Pills or auto injectors...I get a migraine about once a year and take the pills. Triptans like this are used because they stop what the migraine is actually doing.. the only side effect I get from them is sleepiness. Always take imitrex, and lay down for an hour, and migraine is gone. People who have never had a migraine couldn't understand the difference between that and a regular headache
There is a reason people kill themselves over migraines. The pain can be unbearable, many times I have seen my mom laying in the bathroom floor from throwing up due to the pain.

Medicines affect people differently. You should report these side effects to the drug manufacture
