FOUR-STAR DL TYRE WEST
West, a Top247 prospect from Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga., has been committed to Georgia for more than a year. But he's not expected to sign with the Bulldogs, and Florida State recently emerged as the favorite to land him. The Seminoles hosted him on a midweek unofficial visit on Nov. 17, and Florida State received three predictions for West on the 247Sports Crystal Ball leading up to the visit. He made the trip to Tallahassee, Fla., again last weekend for an official visit to Florida State. He returned home without committing to the Seminoles, leaving the door open for Tennessee and Auburn.
The 6-foot-3, 269-pound West also was planning to take a midweek official visit to Auburn this week before traveling to Tennessee for his official visit this weekend. But he ultimately didn't visit the Tigers again this week, leaving the Vols as Florida State's main competition for him going into this weekend.
West has been to Tennessee's campus once before — in April 2019 for a weekend visit that allowed him to attend the Vols' spring-ending Orange and White Game during former coach Jeremy Pruitt's tenure. West now will get another look at Tennessee this weekend before making his final decision and arriving at the school of his choice in January as an early enrollee.
FOUR-STAR RB JUSTIN WILLIAMS
Tennessee has been widely viewed as the team to beat for Williams, a former West Virginia commitment, since he parted ways with the Mountaineers on Nov. 17. But he returned to Auburn on an official visit last weekend after getting a scholarship offer from the Tigers on Nov. 27 during his visit for their home game against rival Alabama. The 6-foot, 205-pound Williams, who's a four-star prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, now is making another trip to Tennessee this weekend for his fifth and final official visit before announcing his final decision on Wednesday, the first day of the Early Signing Period.
He also visited the Vols for their games Nov. 13 against Georgia and Nov. 20 against South Alabama. He attended three games at Auburn this season. On Tuesday, he announced that Auburn and Tennessee are his finalists as he moves toward his final decision.
Williams has received scholarship offers from more than 30 schools. He picked up an offer from Tennessee on Oct. 29 after also landing an offer from Michigan in October. He also added an offer from Georgia Tech on Dec. 2 after reopening his recruitment more than two weeks earlier.
Tennessee has received three predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Williams, who plans to be an early enrollee at the school of his choice.
DE/LB GABRIEL JACAS
Jacas, an edge rusher from Fort Pierce (Fla.) Central High School, has been committed to Tulane for more than five months. But after getting an offer from Tennessee less than a month ago, he has received a visit from the Vols' coaches each of the past two weeks and now is traveling to Knoxville this weekend to take a firsthand look at the program. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Jacas is a state champion wrestler in addition to being a Power Five-level football prospect who caught Tennessee's attention with a strong senior season. He also holds offers from Mississippi State, Illinois, South Florida, Florida International and Georgia Southern.
Rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports and in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Jacas said he's being recruited by Tennessee as a defensive end rather than a projected edge rusher. The Vols have indicated that they envision him lining up with his hand on the ground, meaning he could address one of their biggest remaining needs in the 2022 class. Tennessee currently has only two projected defensive linemen in its 2022 class, and one of them — Venson Sneed of Winter Park, Fla. — is not expected to sign with the Vols.
With Jacas now traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee appears to have a realistic shot at adding to its defensive-line class by stealing Jacas away from the Green Wave.
DE/LB JARED VERSE
Verse, a redshirt freshman edge rusher at the University of Albany, entered the NCAA transfer portal more than a week ago and quickly has become one of the hottest names on the transfer market. He recorded 11.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks this season, and he will have three remaining seasons of eligibility at the school of his choice.
Syracuse hosted him on an official visit last weekend, and he's currently in the midst of a whirlwind week that will include four official visits before the NCAA-mandated dead period for recruiting starts Monday morning. He traveled to Houston earlier this week, and he arrived at Florida State on Thursday.
Verse now is set to travel to Tennessee on Saturday for a one-day official visit with the Vols before heading to Purdue on Sunday for his fifth and final official visit. The Vols faced plenty of competition for one of his official visits and were able to secure one after Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner traveled to New York on Sunday to visit with him.
With Verse planning to enroll at the school of his choice in January, he's hoping to decide where he wants to play sometime this month. For now, there doesn't seem to be a consensus on where he's likely to land. But the Vols getting one of his official visits this weekend should give them a chance to be a strong contender.
WR CHAS NIMROD
Nimrod, a three-star prospect from Bentonville (Ark.) High School, has been committed to Tennessee for more than four months. He announced his decision just five days after he earned an offer from the Vols with an impressive performance during a private workout with their coaches on July 31, when he made his first visit to Knoxville. He said his decision came down to Tennessee and Utah State at the time, although Michigan and Purdue also extended offers to him in the week leading up to his commitment. The 6-foot-2.5, 181-pound Nimrod now is taking his official visit to Knoxville this weekend before signing next week and enrolling at Tennessee in January.
CB CHRISTIAN HARRISON
Harrison, a three-star prospect from Woodward Academy in College Park, Ga., gave Tennessee one of its most recent commitments on Nov. 29. The former Liberty commitment chose the Vols over Florida and Nebraska at the time, becoming the first projected defensive back in Tennessee's 2022 class. The 6-foot, 183-pound Harrison is the son of former NFL All-Pro safety Rodney Harrison. The younger Harrison attended the Vols' home game Oct. 9 against South Carolina and returned Nov. 27 for a portion of their regular-season finale against Vanderbilt. He now will get to take more of an in-depth look at Tennessee on his official visit this weekend before signing on Wednesday.
