Interestingly, I just finished a book that included the story of British POWs that were forced to work on the "Hell/Death Railway" in Sumatra under control of Imperial Japan. It was actually completed on VJ day. Needless to say, the survivors were certainly thankful for the decision to put Fat Man and Little Boy to use.
