Has their ever been a team that declined a NIT bid? Was just thinking about bubble teams and how the NCAA has hosed a few deserving teams in the past and wondered if this has happend before.

If anybody has done this (I doubt it), my take is this: If you're on the bubble, you're not really that good of a team to begin with.

Shut up and take the NIT bid.

On a serious note, I remember Georgetown did decline a few years ago. I know that some other teams have had votes on whether to accept or decline.

I think the NIT became a lot more interesting and thus more prestigious (or at least as prestigious as a consolation event can be) a few years ago when they went to a 32-team bracket. For a long time, they had no bracket and just designated matchups every round. That made it difficult to follow.

I think Arkansas declined a bid a few years back. Probably several teams have over the years.

I would argue that the NIT tournament was more prestigious back before the NCAA Tournament allowed 64 teams.
