Dee Finley, rated the nation's No. 1 defensive prospect by at least one recruiting service, verbally committed to the Gators over the weekend. Now comes the hard part - keeping him in the fold until February.

The Gators certainly will have competition because Finley is from Auburn, Ala., and the Tigers were in his final three along with UF and LSU.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Finley is UF's second commitment for the class of 2008, joining Gainesville High defensive end Earl Okine. As a junior, Finley had eight interceptions, 50 solo tackles and broke up 15 passes.

Yeah, he is #1 by ESPN I think and not even top 100 by most. The recruiting service that has him that high is a joke.

When it comes to recruiting, I never listen to ESPN.

Compared to Rivals and Scout, they suck.

I seriously think Espn just gets all the names that are on scout and rivals, put them in a bag, and randomly select the names out of the bag and that is how they rank their players, sort of like the NBA lottery, whichever name comes out the most is ranked number one... i used to joke about that, but now i am really seriously thinking that their method of ranking players is done like that

ESPN will rate anybody that commits to ND higher just as a reflex

No it's because espn didn't take into account the JUCO and prep recruits, which for us would've been 3 4 star players and 2 5 star players. (a huge chunk of our class)

No, that has nothing to do with how they rank the recruiting classes, but, thanks for the lame excuse for an insult.

Don't know about JUCOs. They rank the classes based on the players brought in, not how likely the team is to develop them.

I think there is a service that does that, it might be Rivals. I'm not sure. I'm not sure how our ranking would be affected with losing Hall, Sykes, Melancon, and Barnes, because the average star rating would change.
