Defense missing links

Can you imagine how good we would be if we had Reggie White, John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, Shaun Ellis, Al Wilson, Leonard Little, Jerod Mayo, Deon Grant, Eric Berry, and Jabari Greer on the same defense?

Primarily the defense was missing quality coaching. There is enough talent there to be good. Maybe not all-SEC good, but more than good enough to win a bunch of games this year.

All this defense needs is a 6'9", 350 lb man that can bench 1200 lbs and run a 3.6 40 yard dash...

Then we would be in business.

They would have been as ineffective as the rest of the defense with the same coaching. And what happened to Mo Couch this year? He was one of my favorite defensive Vols coming into the season and thought he was going to be our leader on that side of the ball. I saw him get shaken up today and realized I had completely forgotten about him and haven't seen him or heard anything about him.

I don't get this at all!! Did we purposely recruit turtles on the defensive side of the ball? Did our coaches NOT see their measurables when they were being recruited? If our players are so slow, how on god's earth did we offer them schollys in the first place? Their has to be more to it than that!

Jackson and Myles had all the physical talent in the world, they just had nothing upstairs. Hughes and Edwards weren't that good anyways.

All we need on defense is
1) Corners that can play the ball in the air and still set the edge in the run game.
2) Defensive ends capable of rushing the passer (get sacks) and keeping contain.
3) Tackles who can push the pocket and hold up against double teams at the POA.
4) Linebackers who can read run/pass quickly. And play both accordingly.
5) Safeties..... see number 4.

Other than that, we are all set.

Yes. This is the same roster as last year, minus Austin Johnson, Brian Randolph, and Malik Jackson. The return of Lathers and the addition of McCullers/Sentimore should have more than offset the losses. That is what is so frustrating.

Seeing the highlights over and over of Vandy's #87 out running 4 of our DBs tells me we are way too slow to compete in the SEC.

Can't wait to see where Lathers is drafted :) . Randolph got hurt because of Teagues sorry ass. Our defensive talent as a whole was hugely overrated. Hugely.

just not sure they knew wtf what to do on the simplest plays. I watch teams throw the quick wr screen against bama and other teams and the cb is heading up field to beat the block and disturb the play. Our cb accepts the incoming block and appears to hold it so our other slow db that is 10 yards away can come in and make the play. Time and time again, I saw rb's run right by our dl as our dl was just accepting their blocks as they were waiting for another dl or lb to make the play. Time again, i watched lb's and db's not looking around to see what player may be coming into their zone so they can make an instinctive play. They only look at the qb. And to see #54 trying to cover a TE in coverage twice on 3rd down today is the 30th terrible 3rd down D called this year, at minimum.

We need some ballers, and some coaches that know how to coach ballers. I don't give a flip what their name is or where they have coached.

Sure it was, no argument there, but it could at least slow people down last year. One of the biggest problems with the patchwork defense last year was keeping it off the field. My point was the defense this year was a little deeper and more experienced, but was much worse.

We need some corner backs and safeties in the worst way. I think we can have a decent defense if we get the right DC. Wilcox did a much better job with most of these same players.

Lathers will not get drafted He is incapable of covering anyone on a pass play. He is a liability. Good but not NFL
