Teams have actually attempted more runs against UT than Georgia (45 more) and we give up like 7 more yards per game. Opponents have attempted 256 rush attempts (32 per game) and 349 pass attempts (43) against us. Seems pretty normal ratio to me.I think a couple of things that folks continually overlook regarding our poor passing defensive numbers and total yards given up are that offenses have more possessions and thus more opportunities to stack up numbers due to our offense getting off the field so fast. They also are almost always.playing from behind which means they are passing much more.
With that said..the playing from behind makes our run defense look a better than maybe it is...because teams ruah a lower % of the time agaisnt us.
I haven't researched this so if someone has data showimg different i would like to see it. But i feel confident that the gist of what i believe is accurate.
The only defensive stat that matrers is points surrendered...and we do pretty well there.
That’s why heupel alluded to our defense being magical like the offense REAL soon. They r all clicking at the right time.Think on this for a moment. Each week OUR defense plays the best offense in the nation. Not only is it an offense, it’s an innovative never before seen offense. Tim banks defensive scheme works perfect with this offense. It allows the offensive players to rest. They stop the run and they don’t give up a lot of points. They get tons of hurries, sacks, and turnovers. Yes, they allow a lot of total yards; Allowing total yards per game I believe will become irrelevant as teams begin to use this offense. Tim banks defense might be the next defense that will be used primarily. No more 3-4 4-3 4-2-5 etc.
