The prowl works well against option teams because the qb is reading the defensive end, and depending on what he does he will either run the option or keep it, or will do a quick handoff or pass. The prowl was taking away the QB's read. Thats why it worked so well against Fl. If the team isnt running an option, they are more keying on what the secondary is doing, they run a man in motion to see if the defense is playing man or zone etc, and arent as concerned with which gap the defensive line is hitting except for trying to pickup the blitz. So I dont see any point in using it except against an option team.
