So one thing Cuonzo has stressed since he has entered the program is defense. I personally think that is his best shot at making a run for the tournament with are overall lack of talent that we have. Let's take a look at Tennessee's two key wins: Connecticut and Florida.
I want to compare these to teams game stats versus average stats.
First, lets look at Connecticut:
Season Avg.
Points: 70
FG %: .472
3P %: .354
-----------------------------------------
Game stats
Points: 57
FG Made-Attempted: 20-55 (.364)
3P Made-Attempted: 6-18 (.333)
-----------------------------------------
Now, take a look at Florida:
Season Avg.
Points: 82.2
FG %: .482
3P %: .407
-----------------------------------------
Game stats
Points: 56
FG Made-Attempted: 20-56 (.357)
3P Made-Attempted: 7-22 (.318)
-----------------------------------------
I think we can defeat anyone in the NCAA playing like we did during these two games. Just thought you guys would like to see these stats.

Great post!

With our defense we will be in every game, it's the job of the team to not turn the ball over much, and make free throws and they will be able to win some more games they shouldn't.

Cuonzo said this would be a different team in February.
Let's start Tuesday night.
Great defense, 10 or less TOs and 70% free throw shooting.
Let's get our first road win and there will be HELL TO PAY for opponents in FEB.

I agree we win Tuesday and this team has a much different look about then than they did a couple weeks ago.

We have got to do a better job from the line, its a must. Uconn stayed close bc we couldn't knock them down. I think we hit 5-6 to close the game though.

Those are the checklist for a Tennessee game. Might have to start a thread to see if we accomplished those things after Vandy.

good post - however i think Stokes completely changes the equation on lack of talent - the more he gets into the mix the more talented this team becomes - heck of a find by CCM

I'd add Vanderbilt 3 pt fg to it. In 4 of their 5 losses they shot very poorly from 3, around 25%. They average as a team over 40% and shoot 23 3's a game. Position 1-3 are over 45% and goulbourne at the 4 shoots 40%.

I can't see us having under 10 turnovers. Our ball security has been atrocious all season and nothing has changed to make it any better.

Considering UCONN has some of the best guards in the country and tend to turn teams over the fact we only had 10 turnovers, and only 1 in the second half shows something has changed. Hopefully they stick with what they did against UCONN

No it shows that we had one good half of basketball. The other half we had nine TOs which was putting us on pace with our past games.

It would be great if we figure out our turnover woes but right now the last half of the uconn game is the exception.

That it is, im holding out hope that something finally clicked in their heads and they realized what CCM was expecting.

That is one area where Martin's team excelled at M State.
They were something like 9th in the country last year so you know he isn't pleased.

exactly. they averages right at 10 turnovers a game so like you said you know he isnt pleased. he stated before the season when people wanted to know about his style he said defense and turnovers and elaborated and said his teams average around 10 turnovers a game so you know thats where he wants this team to be. as he said recently to he wants his teams to hold opponents to 60(?), under 40% from field and under 30% from 3. his m state teams did all those things, and recently so is this team. another interesting trend since conference play has begin, which is when ccm said youd see the differences, is the minutes. at m state all 5 starters played 30 + minutes 6th man getting 25 minutes and then 2 others filling in the leftover. that is starting to take shape here golden, tatum, stokes all getting around 30 and maymon richardson around 28. then 3 guys mcbee, mcrae, hall getting about 15 minutes a piece.
