I'm so sick of everyone on this board freaking out if we get a great offensive coach instead of a defensive minded coach.

Just a few coaches names to throw out there that had horrible defenses before they got a huge gig.

Urban Meyer - UTAH (All Offense)
Got to Florida then all of a sudden got a defense

Brian Kelly - Cincinnati (All Offense)
Got to ND then all of a sudden got a defense

Kevin Sumlin - Houston (All Offense)
Got to A&M and all of sudden could win with a good defense as well

I'll give you Muschamp & Saban are defensive minded, but let's not act like it's the end of the world if we get a great offensive coach

The SEC is won with defense, so why not kill two birds with one stone? Good coach and a good defensive mind.

Derek Dooley - Tennessee (All Offense)
Fired.

All Offense? What are you talking about?

He was never an offensive coordinator, just because he worked with WR/TE doesn't make him ALL OFFENSE. Let me know how great those LA Tech's offense were when he was there. If you want to compare his #'s to the coaches I mentioned above as far as offensive stats, lmk

All I am saying is Sumlin & Meyer were as offensive as you get before coming to the SEC. You have to be able to move the ball on Bama, LSU & Florida, I'm just saying if an offensive minded coach gets hired they will be able to pull a defensive coordinator to keep them in every game.

Depends on the staff he has. I wouldn't be sad with a great offensive mind coach or a great defensive mind coach. As long as they are great :) We have the resources to let the new coach assemble a top notch staff.

There are always exceptions. No just my opinion .. after this year ND will go back to just being ok. They have a possible Heisman trophy winner on defense which makes a huge difference.

an offensive minded coach could be ok.. If he got a great DC.. (which sunseri was not)

so we should hire an offensive mind like Meyer and hire Charlie Strong as DC like Meyer did? Is that what you're saying?

I am saying I would much rather have a dude who's offense can't be stopped and take my chances on landing a monster DC to be able to manage to stop very pathetic offenses (Bama, LSU & Florida)

Who stopped Tennessee's offense last year?

Under this logic we should rehire Dooley and just focus on a different DC.

No.

Urban had a great DC.

Kevin Sumlin has a great tool with Johnny Boy. I will be interested to see how he fares in games where he doesn't have a tool of that caliber at his disposal. Not saying he isn't a good coach, but the Aggies defense has had meltdowns a couple of times this year which nearly cost them a couple of games.

I am not saying that we are screwed if we get an offensive minded coach. Heck I am on the Fedora train and have been since it became clear Gruden was a no go. But I do not want a team that relies on shoot outs to win games. It doesn't match up to a top caliber defence.

Florida looked lost at the beginning of several games this season. Defense dialed in a new plan and they held the line. I shouldn't even mention what Saban did with the exception of the A&M game. The stats are sickening.

And speaking of. Look at that game. A&M was up 21 points in no time flat and Alabama still almost came back for the win.
