Guys, I hate to admit this but we are just outmanned tonight against Auburn. They have weapons I think our military has never seen. Auburn is doing whatever they want at will. I wish our tackling was better and we didn't have as many missed coverage assignments. Our defensive secondary are looking at each other wondering what just happened on the previous play. I wish we knew the answers to our team's defensive problems especially in the last two previous games. Any of you guys have opinions or answers to the defensive problems? Maybe, we will do better in the second half. :cross:

The D would have looked a lot better if we could have managed a little more than 42 yards of offense.

Sure the D had some major breakdowns, but you can't ask your defense to stay on the field that much against an offense like Auburn.

Maybe a few answers are Kevin Simon,Antwan Stewert,Greg Jones,Marvin Mitchell,James Banks,Brandon Johnson and probably more that i'm forgetting right now.

I'm not trying to make excuses but 5 of those guys would be starting tonights game if they were healthy or not kicked off the team.

BUT there is no excuse for the guys that are playing being out of position and not tackling.

What are the reasons for the last two games against Vanderbilt and Kentucky?????

That's a really good question. The time of possession definitely wasn't a factor in either of those games. We played great defense against Notre Dame and suddenly for the last 3 weeks we haven't been able to cover anybody or get much of a consistent pass rush.

We can't go blaming the game on the refs... That would make us no better than Bammers or Gator fans.

Agreed

Going into the season we knew our secondary was weak and inexperienced, and that was the area where the game was lost. All season long any team that could throw and did throw took advantage of it.

Mahelona was not a factor at Vandy and Kent and him being back against Auburn really improved our Defense but AU exposed our biggest D-fense weakness the secondary Allen is good but in the wrong position and Hefney has shown some potential but still has alot of growing up to do. He will be much better next yr and maybe we can get a JCT or 2 to fill in some holes back there.

I thought the D played very well with the exception of the secondary. We held Cadillac to 100 yards, Campbell to 57, and Brown to 50 and Auburn used the pass to take us to school. The annoucers even mentioned it several times in the 2nd half, that the TN D has taken control of this game. An exciting part of this game, even though we started off like we played the last two games, is the fact that we tied the score in the 2nd half after being down 21-7 with a 3rd string QB starting his 3rd game, and it happens to be the biggest game of the year for the SEC, which is better then most bowl games, IMO. If we could have played a little better in the 1st half...you never know. Woulda Coulda shoulda.......

I still stand by an earlier comment on let them play football in regards to the penalites, with the exception of the ones that were evident, but all the ineligible calls, the holding calls 5 yards behind the play, some of the pass interference plays, delay of game calls(on two seperate occasions, Auburn hit 0 on the play clock, but no call) etc, this is the SEC championship game, there is going to be pushing, pulling and other stuff .

Well, we let them jump out early. The key to the game, like I said, was to hurry and keep a lead to a TD or less, and play the game close because we always find a way to open it up towards the end.

There's plenty of 'what-ifs' that would mean we won the game... But they didn't happen, and that's the way it is. We went in, scored more points against Auburn than anyone this season despite a near-complete lack of passing offense, and our defense kept it close despite having one of the statistically worst pass defenses in the country.
