These two guys desperately need to be swapped. Antwan Stewart can't tackle a cold and Demetrice Morley seems to have issues with assignments at safety.

Morley is probably the best tackler on the team whose name isn't Jerod Mayo. He might even be a better tackler than him. He's a speed/cover guy. Whenever you see him lined up on the line, in the slot, or whatever, he's all over the guy. He showed up BIG last night and made all kinds of plays, but on their first touchdown, his missed assignment is what made it so easy. That has happened to him on several occasions this year. He needs to be at cornerback where he uses his strengths and doesn't let people get first downs on 4 yard outpatterns like Stewart does.

Antwan is a good cover guy, but can't tackle. That problem isn't going to be solved at safety, but Hefney has everything on lockdown back there anyway. We need to stop giving up the plays that Morley gives up through mis-assignments. Stewart just has a better understanding I think, of what to do.

Our secondary has been really good this year and I don't know how anyone could say that Jonathan Wade isn't an All American and Jonathan Hefney isn't at least 2nd team All American. That isn't home cooking, that's just amazing seasons for both of them. However, they were getting picked apart and worn out at the seams last night despite being opportunistic. I think the majority of the issues are with Morley/Stewart being out of place.

I posted something similar to this earlier. I think Morley is getting picked on a bunch during pass plays. He is definitely one of our best tacklers.

I think this means a lot for the any incoming Freshman that can play corner. Two seniors out on at DB. There is an opportunity for immediate playing time in our secondary.

I think M. Johnson will get a few looks during the last part of the season at safety during passing downs.

Did anyone else notice how many players were playing yesterday? I say McCoy in there a bunch. I do not know whether it was because of the DT that was visiting or what, but it was sure nice to see those younger guys making contributions.

I guess when you are on the field for 45 minutes for defense, you have to use a lot of players.

sorry i missed your thread.....

i noticed alot of people playing as well. rico needs to be on the field as it is and granted we'll have rashaun fellows coming back next year, we still need immediate help back there.

therein lies the recruiting that you mentioned.....

this was a HUGE day for recruiting. all kinds of people were there, including marvin austin who is the friend of rico mccoy. we could get austin, but who knows. i would think it'd be an outside shot, based on principle alone.

however, there are a few top receivers in the crowd and with crompton showing off, that could be huge. there were also a few athletes and d-linemen that were supposed to be there. i can log onto rivals and get all of the names specifically.

but we need receivers bad. if meachem doesn't come back, we're going to have to rely on people that either aren't there yet or don't play right now. it's obvious that josh briscoe is horrible. the guy can't catch. lucas taylor is marginal at best and austin rogers has yet to be seen or heard for different reasons.

that means we're left with quinton hancock who had a good spring and brent vinson coming in, along with these guys. eric berry would be HUGE in recruiting, so would a few of the top freshmen recruits that could come in. berry wants to play offense, but is a top corner coming out also. tennessee would probably let him decide on the field where he ends up.

we could potentially have a class receivers wise that rivals the meachem/swain/smith trio.

i'm not worried about marvin austin because d-tackles are a dime a dozen for tennessee. as long as we can get chris donald, i'll be happy.
