Well, the day is here. I am not excited about the prospects of either party holding all three majorities/offices, including a supermajority in the Senate. So, I thought that I would start a thread to keep a watch on it tonight. Since is it still looking quite probable that Obama wins, then let's focus on the Senate races here.

Perhaps the question is whether the Dems have to pick up 9 or 10 seats. While they need 60 to have the supermajority, I'm holding out hope that in order to avoid the supermajority - Lieberman will begin caucusing with the Repubs, if need be. The question is - would he be willing to give up his committee chair for that....I hope so, if necessary.

Post what news you have during the day/night, if you please...

Alaska - After Steven's (R) guilty verdicts, Begich (D) seemed to have a very decent lead (seat currently held by Stevens(R)).

Colorado - Can Schaffer (R) make up 10 points on Udall (D)? (seat open, formerly held by R).

Georgia - Can Chambliss (R) hold a 3-4 pt. lead over Martin (D)? Regardless, it looks like there will be a runoff here. (seat held by Chambliss(R)).

Kentucky - McConnell(R) gets re-elected doesn't he? (seat held by McConnell(R)).

Louisiana - Does Kennedy(R) find a way to knock off Landrieu(D)? Probably not... (seat held by Landrieu(D)).

Minnesota - All I can say is wow. Who knows about this one...I think that Coleman(R) is slightly ahead of Franken(D) in most, but not all, polls right now. (set held by Coleman(R)).

Mississippi - This is an open seat, but it looks like Wicker(R) holds on against Musgrove(D). (seat held by Wicker(R)).

New Hampshire - It looks like Shaheen(D) will pick up this seat from Sununu(R). (seat held by Sununu(R)).

New Mexico - It looks like the Rs will lose this open seat with Udall(D) up fairly big in the polls over Pearce(R). (set open, formerly held by R).

North Carolina - Again, wow. This thing is close with Hagan(D) with a slight lead in the polls over Dole(R). (set held by Dole(R)).

Oregon - This one is a problem, with Merkely(D) with a slight lead over Smith(R). (set held by Smith(R)).

Virginia - Well, I guess we can write this open Republican seat off to the Dems...Warner(D) up big over Gilmore(R). (seat open, formerly held by R).

Which interesting races have I missed?

Good job TT. that looks like it about covers it as far as I know. I will be very shocked if Wicker doesn't win MS. I would like to see Dole pull out NC. also.

Yeah Warner will kill Gilmore. I'm not sure Gilmore is still campaigning and even Warner has been doing less and less.

And TennNC would be happy, I voted for Warner

My bet is that the Dems pick up 6-7 seats but no more. I'll call Hagan in NC and Merkley in Oregon...but Franken loses in a close one in Minnesota. The Dems also pick up VA, NM, CO, AK, and NH. That's 7.

Most of the 60 seat talk has been tempered to "possibly" of late.

Yeah, that is what it sounds like to me as well. Even if a runoff is forced in Georgia - I think that format favors Chambliss, which makes the supermajority worries diminish. Thank goodness.

even if the dems end up with 57 seats, they can find 3 limp-wristed RINO milquetoasts to effectively end any potential filibusters.

If Minnesota elects Al Franken they should be banned from all elections for the next 6 years at least.

I don't think that the democrats get the supermajority, I agree with TT about the run-off in Georgia. I can't decide who the run-off benefits though, Martin will get a huge amount of money pumped into his campaign for the run-off, but He won't have Barr stealing votes from Chambliss either. That may be the single most intriguing race to watch tonight and, possibly, in the coming weeks.

they were on probation for electing Jesse Ventura, if they elect Franken, it'll be double secret probation for the Golden Gophers.

For the first time in my life, I've been going to some of the blogs like Huffington Post...saw this there

Lieberman: 'I Fear' That 'America Will Not Survive' If Dems Get 60 Senate Seats

I guess that officially confirms my thought that Lieberman will be caucusing with the Rs to avoid a supermajority (or perhaps he will be caucusing with the Rs either way).

Yeah, it's terrible when someone who resorts to outright slander in a desperate attempt to keep herself on the Senate gravy train gets beat.

Eh, you do have a point. She had a good lead atleast what the polls where saying a few weeks ago, but I guess crap like this creeps back on ya..

If Georgia gets a pass for Chambliss and Tennessee didn't get their ticket pulled for Corker, Minnesota should suffer no penalty for electing an idiot like Franken.

The alternative to Corker wasn't exactly a fantastic choice.
