moves NFL start date up a day. Instead of starting on Thursday, the NFL announced they will move the first game for 2012 up to Wednesday so the game doesn't interfere with the President/Candidate Obama's speech before the Democratic National Convention.

I have no issue moving any event when the President schedules an important speech(i.e. State of the Union, announcing an invasion, etc). But, my issue with this is he is making a speech not as the President but as a candidate. Yes, he is both, but this is the business of the Democratic Party and not the White House.

For the NFL, I'm sure it is all about viewership and revenues so I'm not as concerned about their decision making on this. Regardless, Thursday is Karate night so I'll be doing some "judy chops" anyway.

NFL season to start on Wednesday, Sept. 5, due to Democratic National Convention - ESPN

NFL>Obama

If it were the same day, the ratings for Obama would be horrid. Nobody turns off football to watch politics.
