I have seen lots of people hoping we have zero controlled chaos no matter the situation, but also talking about Pearl's deepest team. What does that mean?
I honestly believe that although Harris and Hopson will be our offensive stars this year, and Brian Williams will be fierce inside, that TN could beat lots of NCAA teams playing our backups.
PG: Trae Golden
SG: Skylar Mcbee
SF: Jordan McRae
PF: Jeronne Maymon
C: John fields
This has never been close to being the case before. What it means for defense is that "foul trouble" is really something only Hopson (SG) needs to be hugely concerned with by the time we get to NCAAs.
It also means that we should never have a player out there who is too tired to give maximum effort. Pearl was not about to pull Chism because he was dogging it and put in his son.
When you are playing and you have a very strong player backing you up, you do not mind going out and resting. The other guy tires that defense and extends your lead and then you can get back in there and do work.
I think the starters will benefit from very solid depth. Goins and Williams and Harris should all be excited about how deep they should be able to go in the tournament without hitting the wall physically.
I am concerned about the Danger from Grainger. I like him a good bit, but there is a huge drop off when Hopson sits. I am concerned about his ability to stay in front of talented SGs.
Looking at how deep this team is, I think we should expect great things from the season. Thank you Bruce Pearl, thank you two important big men for transferring, and Go Vols!
