DeSantis calls for end to standardized testing in Florida

DeSantis has called for the end of traditional weeks-long standardized testing in Florida, recommending it be replaced with a pre/mid/post testing system that monitors student progress along the way and giving teachers and parents more opportunities to provide remediation as the year progresses.

Even with tools such as iReady, Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, and Khan Academy, teachers still have to wait an entire academic year to see how the students are progressing via the metrics used by the state. Furthermore, students who excel in their homework or on these other platforms may not be comfortable with the annual high-stakes single test format and perform below their actual ability.

The real test to determine whether someone has mastered a subject (especially math and science) is to test with questions at the next level or with a twist and see of the kids can figure it out based on what they've learned; you have to see the work to understand the student's methodology. Multiple choice, standardized tests won't show comprehension and ability to reach beyond a guess. Standardized tests are a fraudulent measure, but the companies who manufacture them find them very profitable, and they are great con jobs for educational systems who teach to the test.

Excellent idea. Constantly prepping kids for tests instead of teaching them hinders their progress.
They are replacing one test with three. Pre, mid, and post.
Teachers see the test, students know the pre needs to be low, teacher teaches to the test the rest of the year, fabricated growth.

States should return to the ITBS. Best comparative data ever provided by a test - on the student, school, district, and state levels.

Do teachers in Georgia still erase the wrong answers and fill in the correct ones to make themselves look better?
